Consistently distinguished female characters. Other shows have come pretty far but Rarity's something other than 'fussy,' Applejack isn't just WORK STRONGK, and even as much as Twilight 'gets' friends she can get harried and fussy all the same.

It's kind of nice to see a show where you can't swap out characters for one another all that easily, particular in girl's shows. Looking at the old MLP is almost painful by comparison. Even "my Little Pony Tales" didn't do much other than make them a little more jagged.

It's also true that in real life you can have a blind spot for dealing with your family over your friends. She might be able to handle Applejack as a friend but Applejack isn't underfoot nearly as much as Sweetie.

Rarity was the first to extend an olive branch in the Sleepover, but mostly it was "let's not go for the throat while Twilight's around." They both learned to relent only after things still got nasty enough for Twilight to bring forth the issue. It's glad to see their relationship got considerably better by the events of "Sisterhood Social" but Rarity broaches "the question" of Sweetie largely by complaining Applejack makes her look bad by comparison.

I'm not sure if that's what passes for Rarity's vanity or her way of getting advice without having to ask directly.

Just because they are the same character in name and body, doesnt make them the same across both mediums. While they should be generally alike, i disagree that Rarity has been shown to have serious abandonment issues in the show, where as in the comic its obvious. Now if there is a future episode that ties Nightmarity to the show canon I could agree, but if we are talking about show Rarity as I see it that trait has never been demonstrated.

You see... Rarity is based off of Audrey Hepburn but also has qualities from one of Audrey's iconic roles Holly Golightly.

Basically Holly is secretly very afraid and full of repressed sadness which she hides by being a socialite.
And as such I would rather Rarity comes to terms with those issues by rejecting the fake Holly Golightly persona and embracing the real Audrey Hepburn persona.
Which would be achieved by having Rarity focus less on High Society and more on helping others and becoming even more beloved as a result (like Audrey who used her sadness as a motivation to do good things) rather than hiding her sadness with a decadent lifestyle (Golightly)

This would be the ultimate expression of Rarity's character (subversion of a stereotype) and the crystallization of the show 's message (that friendship is magic)

MMDW very clearly has Dash upset because she doesn't understand why people not only don't like her anymore but seem to be actively shunning her. Even though its not exactly the case she interprets it that way and is very upset by it.
