There are many reasons blunt weapons are worse than edged weapons in combat.

Take, for example, the fact that blunt weapons require time to swing, and recover from the swing. This makes them inherently slower.

Second, you must also consider that knives are more versatile up-close. You can still cut someone if he's right in front of you. However, you can't get the proper leverage on a bat if the guy is right up in your face.

Third, you can't conceal a blunt-force trauma weapon as easily as you can conceal and carry a knife

Fourth, you can't stab with a blunt weapon, but you can stab with a knife. Yes, you can jab with a blunt weapon, but it's more easily blocked

Fifth, a blunt weapon is more easily taken from you. If you miss a swing, the guy can jump on and grab the weapon from you. You can't grab a knife from someone - your tendons will be cut and you will automatically let go

Knife fighting is messy and fighting is far too formal a word for what the act really entails.
Its widely flailing a cutting implement around causing massive trauma and rapid blood loss usually of all parties involved.

Expert "knife fighters" usually emphasize keeping the blade as far away from your body as possible.
They train in grappling techniques to disarm an attacker to take the knife away from them or to immobilize them while slashing/stabbing with their own blade.

The problem with that is that someone high on adrenaline aiming to kill you isn't going to stand still and give you the opportunity to use that one super cool hold that you learned in class. Hes going to go full windmill on your ass and cut you to the bone 20 times while your blood runs into the gutter faster than your money was pissed away into that knife fighting class.

Throwing knvives as weapons are a last ditch distraction while going for your pistol or running away, its even more stupid than the concept of knife fighting since you willing discard your weapon with no guarantee of serious (or minor) injury.
