The ever popular My Little Pony: Friendship is magic shoes that I put so much heart into designing, have been axed completely by Zazzle. It's not just one or two designs this time, I'm afraid they're gone.

I always knew this was a risk, and despite Zazzle essentially being a copyright infringement generator, Hasbro is no one to fuck around with. Considering how many close calls I've had, and how many times I've tangled with the content review department, it's a wonder I kept it up this long. However, no matter how many secret pony fans may work for Zazzle, after that run-in with the BBC over the Doctor Whoof shoes, they just couldn't turn a blind eye to those ponies any longer. With that much attention suddenly on them, Hasbro caught wind of them immediately, and called for their removal. Zazzle complied.

BUT, this is no sad ending! While it is a bummer to know there are plenty who wont get the chance to get a pair of pony shoes they were looking forward to, it was a damn good run while it lasted, and I personally had a blast making these designs. Yes, it hurts to see all my hard work go down the drain, but in some small way I know it was worth it. Plus, I've accrued a nice chunk of change to spend on Toys For Tots donations come Christmas time. Since last Christmas, these shoes have netted roughly $565. That kinda change buys a lot of Pony toys. If these shoes had remained unnoticed until Christmas, I have no doubt it would have broken a thousand.

Plus, it's a little premature to call this an ending. I'll be saving the money in my own little Pony Fund, and looking for ways to increase that number as well, the more donations I can buy the better. Hell, I may even make some new pony merch in the future, though maybe not with Zazzle since I'm really on their shit list now. And I want to say thanks to everyone that participated in this pony shoes project of mine. Whether you invested in a pair, gave feedback, or even just took the time to look. I mean it, thank you.

Here's my take:
He's an Apple Family member, so a touch of insanity is a requirement. However, I think he was completely awesome. He was ready to reason and compromise with the buffalo right away. Also, I just couldn't help but love his voice and ridiculous facial expressions. Him showing them around the town felt a lot like when I try showing ponies to my IRL friends. It's like, "Hey, look how awesome this is," and they're like, "Yes, I'm sure your town is very nice..." So I felt at least some connection with him right away.

Anywho, I thought that you had already contacted Faust which is why I asked. If you can get to someone in marketing at Hasbro, or just say "I'm the guy with the pony shoes", or hell, send them your portfolio! I'm sure that'd help you if you want to continue in the endeavour.

Again, if you're interested in going the distance, contact whoever you can in marketing. Even graphic design. Someone'll say the shoes are good and hopefully pass it on. I'm not saying you'll get an endorsement deal or anything, but a nod from Hasbro might be useful. A seal of approval would be even better. A full time job would probably be a dream come true, though I can't speak for you of course.

Shoe Brony, you've designed some awesome shoes and helped a lot of kids but at the end of the day.... Hasbro is a company.... a company with a rather poor track record of 'giving a fuck'. The main thing I might be worried about is Hasbro bringing up 'product branding', we bronies aren't really the 'target demographic' of the show, we are a periphery demographic of the My Little Pony Franchise. For a long time the 'periphery demographic' of MLP where 30-40 year old hambeasts pony collectors who were perceived as harmless by Hasbro, but say having a demographic like us may hurt the product branding as a whole and the image the company wants to SELL with the product line. A classic example of this is what happened to Erin Esurance, I think we can all agree.... she got a lot of people's attention.... not only for car insurance but also all the porn of her that popped up. A LOT of porn by a 'periphery demograpghic'. This freaked Esurance out a lot, fearing that, even with her popularity, that Erin Esurance porn could possible damage the company itself and pulled Erin Esurance. I'm just saying sometimes to a company 'image' is more important than popularity.

Back to shoe designs, this was my Princess Celestia shoe, I called it Royal Sunrise. The tongue of the shoe has Celestia's crown on it, design so the crown peeks over the laces when tied. It also has special gold colored eyelets, where you thread the laces, to look more regal. I spent a looooong time doing all the sparkles in the hair by hand.
