I've come to the conclusion there's a second group of friends having similar adventures separate from the main cast.
They all came to Apple-Loosa to help Carrot Top's family's carrot fields and got caught up with a land conflict with a herd of bison. Due to the parallel conflict and poor scheduling, CT ended up assaulting several buffalo instead.

All this insanity about lost technology and the workings of the pony economy have got me thinking: maybe Princess Celestia's banishment of Nightmare Moon / Princess Luna wasn't as simple as it sounded.

Maybe there was a horrible, bloody civil war that happened which ended with the confrontation between Celestia and Luna, ala the Horus Heresy. Maybe humans existed before the civil war and coexisted or perhaps even created the intelligent ponies as we see them in the show, but were wiped out by the destruction wrought by Nightmare Moon, leaving only Celestia to lead everyone. The surviving bits of human technology are used as best as possible.

I think a big problem is that you aren't actually reading anything I've written. My critiques were limited solely to the slipshod nature of the plot. At no point did any character make a choice that resolved in the solution to the plot; what happened is no different than a god snapping their fingers or somebody tripping and landing teeth down on an apple.
