Can someone plx tell me what the appeal of this show is? Or at least why it's taking over the internets... Is it kind of a lulzy fascination or do people actually like it unironicly?

People like it unironically. It's actually a very good and honest show with astounding production values, particularly considering its target demographic and the fact it's what was originally going to be a 20-minute toy commercial.

The director, Lauren Faust, basically summed it up as a kind of backlash to the trend of girls' shows that were "stupid", so her crew's worked to make something that's got brains and a heart. Turns out, this kind of thing resonates with people young and old, male and female. It's not a show just for girls, it can be enjoyed by anyone. The rich characterization and clever writing is a breath of fresh air among all the drug-like randomness and cynical crudeness going around in recent years.

But that's just my opinion. Truth is, you would really have to watch it to understand.

To me, I think Faust is right, she wouldn't be able to treat an actual sibling properly. But the thing is that I've always felt that Rainbow Dash could always rise to the occasion, and that's been my entire viewpoint during the story.
