Just go ahead and give it a watch, it's all on youtube. The design element is a big part for me, I'm a huge fan of Lauren Faust's work. Other than that, initially I was in your boat, I just kept seeing the threads pop up. I finally went ahead and gave it a watch just to see what it was about, and found it severely addictive. It's really cute, well-written, smart for a kids' show, and doesn't feel like it's just pushing toys.

Well, like you said, it's very well directed. The technical merits are fantastic. They use flash, but still get the animation to look great. It's funny. It's cute. It has good characters. It's well written. Reaction faces galore. It's just plain entertaining.

The Rainbow Dash character is a lesbian, although they've never actually admitted it, nor should anybody expect them too. Faust herself has been asked, but she specifically avoided answering the question, which makes sense.

Some homophobefags are upset that we're even talking about it, but I'm fine with it. If we can troll some televangelist into denouncing the show, it will become more powerful than we can possibly imagine.

It's hard to market such different demographics. Commericals for 10 year old girls simply cannot work with 18-35 males.

But with season 2, they may be able to do better. One idea would be high quality (and priced) pony models. You won't sell THAT many (it would have to be online-only) but you can have a larger markup per pony, possibly making it profitable. That would work with the 18-35 market with their increased income who may be more willing to spend the money. Collectors may grab them up as well..

Given that I actually came up with the idea for that pic before I discovered someone had aleady drawn it I can't help but find it strange how people fail to see it's Spike.

Now think about it for a second... Every dragon starts small and probably enjoy the early part of their life being able to hang about with the ponies.

Eventually however they grow big, their friends die, and they can no longer co-exist with the new ponies because they've grown too big.

You now know what was going through the big dragons head in Dragonshy.

cuz someone asked for it before

for about the 8th time in his life, big mac was truly terrified.
he didn't want the calender to be right, but it always was. the entire month the event took place in was marked with warning and reminder signs, and the week blocked off in red ink...but he had been out in the fields so often he had barely noticed, and now it was too late.
it was mating season, and big mac had forgotten to get out of town.

it was a common tradition in equestria for males to leave their home towns during mating season to ensure genetic diversity. though many also accepted the reasoning of "any mating done during the season was not love, and thus just felt wierd" if the two ever saw each other again. but all of this didn't really matter now...big mac was stuck in ponyville, and staying wouldn't end well. big mac attempted to tip-toe out of his bedroom to begin packing...when his size and heavy hooves gave him away.

"biiig broother!" an accented voice came floating from downstairs, an unnecessary amount of emphasis put on the "big". the red pony froze...this wasn't the first time big mac had forgotten about mating season and had to dodge his sister applejack to get to freedom. he had to be extremely careful about it as well, a screw-up here would result in one of the akwardest moments big mac could think of.

He'd have older rarity's body in his mouth, as the villiage is on fire. there'd be corpses on the ground and vilage would be in ruins. Twilight would be using her magic to fight back against spike, tears in her eyes as she sends a magic lance of energy piercing through his heart.

Equestria used to have quite the dragon problem. Dragons would raid Canterlot, and Celestia and the unicorps would fight back eventually slaying the beasts.

So in order to avoid future bloodshed the ponies decided to foster the dragon hatchlings (who were usually left to survive on their own after hatching) and raise them. This would make the dragons accustomed to living among ponies and allow for peaceful coexistence.

Naturally with dragons longevity this plan took quite a while to bear fruit. But the equally long lived Celestia had the foresight to stay with the plan. Eventually an entire generation of dragons had grown to love the ponies and formed a perimeter around the wilder borders of Equestria that kept out feral dragons and other ferocious beasts. These 'tamed' dragons would even come to leave their eggs in Canterlot knowing that the ponies would raise them well.

Full grown dragons were too dangerous to live in the direct vicinity of ponies, even casual things like sleeping or making a dragon roost could greatly disturb their little neighbors. So when the dragons began to grow too large (usually after 10 years or so) they would leave pony society to make a home for themselves in the wilds of Equestria. The only downside to this approach is that some of the baby dragons bonded too strongly with the ponies, and when they reached the appropriate age were unable to handle leaving their foster society. Some dragons suffer extreme feelings of loneliness and ennui after their exile.

Though never confirmed there have been rumors of the occasional dragon, unable to overcome their depression, flying into the skies singing the songs of their youth and taking a suicidal plunge into the mountainside.

applebloom couldn't even get the "es" out of yes before big mac jumped. scraping his hooves against the side of the house as he scaled down to the ground.

Would be an interesting place to visit, I wonder if i could fit it into a D&D setting. The kingdom of the horse lords. Its borders are unknown since the horselords tame dragons which roost in the areas outside of the kingdom. and as such these lands are treacherous, and any ill equiped army would be torn to shreds.

Even if survivng the onslaught of fiercely loyal dragons, the horse lords forces would be enough to contend with. great earth Chargers, bigger and more powerful than any beast known to man, Unicorns with razor sharp horns and power magics, Pegasus cavalry that swoop down from the heavens crush men below.

And their queen is known to be a god herself, an ageless mare, from before the dawn of man able to wield great magics unknown to man.

It'd explain why the warlike human kingdoms haven't taken over peaceful equestria. I mean the ponies fought off a god damn manticore. and a gigantic dire bear. this is a pretty hard place to live.

Spike sat up with his back against the base of the mountain wall. His eyes looking upon the town of Ponyville. After all these years it still retained that small town feel. He glanced down over himself. His brilliant purple scales have long faded. Some scars still left over from his battles to protect Ponyville. The wild ferals and celestial beats never stepped foot on his watch. The town always treated him nice. Throwing a big feast and a party for him whenever he visited. In fact, even in the middle of the night. The ponys were climbing the mountain to reach him. Pegasus were already there, greeting him happily. It was not long before most of the ponys were there. He smiled at them, family members. Great great grandkids and family of his first true friends he ever had. Apple, Rainbow, Flutter, Pinkie, Rare..Princess Twilight never had any kin. Only recently she gave her power to her new student. Spike was there, with her when Twilight gave her last breath.

in her single-minded state, it did not take long for her to notice the black...thing poking out of the bale of hay, and big mac yelped in suprise when he felt something warm and wet on his tip.
"mmm..."applejack enjoyed the taste, and big mac did not want to move or startle her...one of his favorite body parts dangerously close to rows of teeth.

in a moment of clarity, big mac got an idea.

"sis, turn around a second" he said simply, he didn't have to bother with phrasing or other word-play...in this mood, applejack was easy to talk to.
and just plain easy, applejack exposed herself to big mac, patiently waiting for her older brother.
what she got however, was much shorter than she expected, but more maneuverable. big mac began eating his sister out, figuring this technically wasn't incest...and if he was lucky, would tire her out before things escalated.

big mac was sure this would scar him for life, but it was better than the alternative...
a few minutes after they began, applejack fell to the ground, her legs like jelly and her tongue hanging out the side of her mouth. she was in no condition to run, and big mac used this to his advantage. he took off from the barn, spitting the...juices out of his mouth, and making promises to celestia to redeem himself for the sin he just commited.

"Spike..spike?" One of the ponys said a loud to him. Spike opened his eyes again. Giving a gentle smile to her. Moving a massive aged claw, he pet down her back. Spike parted his jaws. Speaking, his voice was deep, strong. "Do you..have..the picture?" The pony blinked and quickly produced a heavily faded photograph from her saddlebag. Handing it to the dragon. "Thank you.." he tried to whisper. He looked at it. The picture of his six friends. A tear forming in his eyes. The pony spoke up. "Spike? Is..this it? Is it time?" Spike gave a gentle nod. Causing all the ponys to become rather silent. A sniffle was herd among some of the younger ponys.

Yeah, those are mine.
As for my working method.. usually for full body images, I use just a circle for the head, and some directional lines (I draw heads differently a lot, no idea wtf I'm doing)
for the body i kind of make shapes and lines where i want the ribcage, pelvic area, shoulders, and spine to go. As for legs and other details, it depends on how lazy I am. I usually draw ovals for where I want the eyes to be. Then I just draw and refine from there.
