Given that's the only real complaint you made about the show itself, there's a few things wrong with it.
First off, it's not really "targeting" anyone. Lauren Faust said she worked really hard to make a show that would appeal to a wide audience, and obviously she accomplished that.
Now, if we assume it is meant to target 6-8 year old girls... there's still no real problem with it.
/co/ watches shows for kids all the time. Are you going to tell me Transformers isn't targeted towards kids? What about Batman? Hell, just about any cartoon on daytime TV is targeted "to kids" to people from the outside looking in. You'll probably say "but it's not just for kids, they appeal to adults to!" Well, same deal here. Just because people who don't watch cartoons may thing cartoons are just for kids doesn't mean the people that make them don't do so with the goal of making as many people as they can like it.
As for it being for girls, who cares? Girls watch shows for guys all the time. You don't look at a girl who likes Transformers or Batman funny, even though those are mostly "for boys", so why the double-standard? Things can be girly and still be enjoyable. |
