It was a cold, windy day in Ponyville. A chill, damp gale blew, the trees bending under the steel gray sky as the distant bellow of thunder threatened rain. Even the most resilient of pegasi had retreated indoors to wait out the unpleasant weather. All of the animals in the forest has retreated to their dens.
Almost all.
A family of rabbits had traveled to a distant meadow and were just now getting back; a mother, a father, and four young rabbits. The wind grew stronger, sending leaves and detritus skittering across the ground and up into the faces of the family. The youngest shivered in the cold that pierced their soft fur. It was okay, Angel thought, it would be nice and warm in the burrow. It wasn't far. They could see it.
Suddenly, the wind picked up speed. A crack from above and to the side. A strange groaning sound, then a ground-shaking impact. Angel was sent flying, landing heavily for such a small creature, finally sliding to a halt a few feet away. After a minute or so, Angel unsteadily got to his paws and looked back. His eyes widened. |
