It's a really common syndrome in character-driven cartoons. I'm sure every cartoon-watcher knows this innately but has never really thought about it, so I'm gonna spell it out.

There has to be a moral at the end of every episode, right? But for there to be a moral, there has to be something antithetical to that moral going on so they can properly learn their lesson. The "anti-moral" if you will. For example if the moral is something about courage, then the anti-moral (the setup) would be one of the characters being an outrageous coward.

That's why every episode has at least one of the ponies being a fucking bitch the whole time. The writers are just laying the anti-moral on a little too thick.

It only looks bad when compared to Dragonshy, but that was because that episode set the bar just too high.

I liked this episode, had good jokes, Twilight being adorable, and it played a cliche plot pretty well. I'd put it somewhere in the middle of my tier list.

What current fapfiction writers we actually have are terrible. A comparison between them and the Pokemon writers is an awful mismatch. Ours either write yaoi stories about original character do not steal ponies, make the ponies human which eliminates the whole point, or write three sentences or less while skipping any kind of sexual dialogue.

Here's hoping this series attracts some decent fapfictions writers in the future.
