Why do people keep saying Twilight was out of character or stupid this episode? Her behaviour was totally in line with her personality.

Like someone else already said, she was more or less a shut-in before coming to Ponyville. Everything she learned about interactions and the outside world were from books so she didn't have much firsthand experience with things. She wanted to have a slumber party, but since it was her first time throwing one, she did what she does best and followed a manual to make sure it was a success.

Good episode. Rarity FINALLY got some damn screentime, and she spent it showing she may very well be obsessive-compulsive, which adds a bit of character. Meh, I don't think one measly Spike centered episode would tarnish the show's mission of being targeted towards girls. He's been around since the beginning and is just as much a part of the franchise as the girls.

So it's pretty much just the earth ponies who have family, and AppleJack's happens to be more extended since they're farmers and all.

I can honestly say this was by FAR one of the worst episodes. People are still hyped due to new-episode-syndrome, but I think people will come to realize just how DULL this episode was.

And this is coming from someone who's 2 favorite ponies are Rarity and Applejack.

Also leaving Spike out of this one was a CATASTROPHE. There was so much you could do with him to lighten up the repetitive nature of the episode, but instead it was just "APPLEJACK SAYS SOMETHING RARITY SAYS SOMETHING TWILIGHT INTERJECTS APPLEJACK SAYS SOMETHING RARITY SAYS SOMETHING TWILIGHT INTERJECTS."

I've revised my opinions regarding the sociological significance of the "starring" Ponies of each episode. Considering that Relationships/Roles are one of the three main categories of emotions (the other two are Identities/Certainties and Wants/Needs), and considering the nature of the target demographic, the actual "hero" in each episode is the friendships themselves, either between two ponies, or between the group.
The combinatorics suggest plots, once they're written down explicitly: Applejack and Rarity (Look Before You Sleep), Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie (Griffon The Brush-Off), Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash (Dragonshy).

I can see how this episode wouldn't be everybody's cup of tea. I personally enjoyed seeing the contrast between Applejack and Rarity's personalities. We already could tell they were both very different individuals, but it wasn't really put under the looking glass till now.

What made it especially good is that anyone can relate to it instantly. We've all had that one person that we just don't click with no matter what, and we either tolerate them, or just avoid them all together.

I do admit however that I was expecting a planned sleepover with all the ponies in attendance, with the plot being cute ponies doing cute things. I honestly would have been happier with that, but this was ok too.

Different strokes I guess. I enjoyed the episode - no where near Applebuck Season tier or anything like that, but ponies doing pony things is part of why I enjoy the show in the first place.

I also love how Applejack and Rarity looked like they were about to come to blows at the beginning, with a healthy layer of festering passive-aggressiveness on top. It underscores how un-saccharine this show is compared to previous versions.

Eh, I'll agree. Some funny moments, but definitely lowest tier of all the episodes so far.
