Yeah, the fun comes from blowing small things out of proportion.
For example: When the first episode aired, not a single male pony spoke or made a sound that wasn't generic horse noise.
A few hours later, the threads were full of theories regarding the possibility that MLP took place in a matriarchal society where men are slaves and only allowed to speak if their "profession" required them to.

Of course, this wasn't true (as far as I know) but it was fun to speculate on the hypothetical society.

It's even better when nothing stands in the way or outright negates the wierd shit the pony-boarders come up with. I'm not even sure if you can say this stuff is taken seriously.

Personally, I just find the threads to be a good excuse to kick back and goof around. The faux-intellectual conversations, the typed-on-fly fanfics, and the general for-the-lulz of the whole phenomenon is what attracts me personally.

The show is fun. The stupid conversations are fun. The whole experience is enjoyable.

The eps are cute on their own but knowing there's people at /co/ with whom I can pretend the whole thing is a grandiose epic of some kind or make twisted speculations on the characters' inner psyches, that's where the fun of discussing it comes from. Because when you look at the show itself, there's not much more to say about it than "well animated, well voice-acted, funny, and cute."

As someone who actually likes the show, and hangs out in the threads, stealing animated .gifs and Derpy Hooves fanart, I really don't see exactly what the big deal is.

It's a fun show. It's obviously made with love, and lacks all of the annoying garbage most kid-oriented shows these days have. Pinkie Pie, as hyperactive and crazy as she is, is less irritating than most of the other "WACKY" characters I've seen. These are all good things.

But, not including the most recent episode with Fluttershy (which I haven't watched yet) Applebuck Season is really the most entertaining episode. That, and maybe the Ticketmaster.

Gilda's episode was annoying because Gilda herself was annoying. And I know she was supposed to be a bitch, but I didn't find her entertaining.

Trixie was a fun character, but those two retarded Unicorns were annoying, and the animation felt a little lacking.

And then there's the general fact that it IS a kids' show, and every episode ends with a Valuable Life Lesson and they tend to reiterate things and repeat themselves, so that the kids can understand it.

I mean, okay, the characters are endearing enough, and you guys are always making porn of everything, but it seems to me that some of you guys are a little more into this show than anyone really should be.

And this is coming from someone who's hunting down the toys.

Most of what she did was pretty understandable. I mean, when she kicked the dragon, he had already been abusing her friends. And she knew damn well that she wasn't going to actually -harm- him by doing so, given the size difference.

Being scared for no reason at all and making things way harder for everyone else as far as something that needs doing is extremely annoying, and Dash was way nicer about it than anyone you know would likely have been in the same situation.
