I'm pretty sure Cynder would be an awesome addition to friendship is magic. Here's why.

Once, Mihoshi was one of the finest officers in the Galaxy Police, racking up enough awards and decorations to make Nicholas "Hot Fuzz" Angel look like a shitty cop.

Then she had a complete and utter breakdown. It's not entirely clear what brought it about, although there are some hints that a planned marriage went disastrously wrong. Regardless, the Mihoshi everyone's used to seeing in Tenchi is canonically a brilliant and supremely skilled police officer who had a breakdown and has been running on "autopilot" ever since, still occasionally showing subconscious skill, but completely scatterbrained, having trouble understanding things, and very overly emotional.

That's the Derpie in my head. A bright and talented pony that had something Go Wrong enough (not necessarily grimdark, just a Fucked-Beyond-All-Belief breakup would do it) that she's been left permanently scrambled.

Doing the coloring on a layer separate from the coloring is a huuuuuuuuge help IMO. If you've got a program that can do it I'd try it; layers are one of the best things about doing it on the computer.
