I let this happen.

I don't even know what I'm doing, but at the same time the response comes naturally. A lunge forward as I launch the scalloped blade at Celestia. I swear I can count every rotation as it travels.

Celestia notices its approach, but it's too late. It's already done its job.

It hits one of the Elements, knocking it away from her. I hear a clang as the glow that surrounds it vanishes, and it's turned to stone, far out of Celestia's grasp.

Celestia's cold eyes are set on me. I'm paralyzed. Not from magic, but from terror. I have the will to move, but my body won't respond. This is it, this is where I die.

The remaining five Elements go chaotic around her, losing their tidy orbits. Celestia looks on with the same dread that consumes me. Beams of light in every color of the rainbow flash all around and the ground trembles again as the Elements are launched away from her, each one turning to stone as it falls.

"I'm fine," he growls. As he stands, I see him press against his shoulder and hear another pop and muffled grunt. I guess he really is fine. He makes his way towards a fallen Celestia, I follow.

"Passed out, that's all. Losing all of that magical energy so quickly is like going for a ten mile run in the course of five seconds."

"H-how did you know I'd be able to make the shot? I mean I was pretty far away and-"

"Anyone could have. That batarang has a mechanism built into it that homes in on the most powerful source of magic near it. It was almost impossible for you to miss."

And here I thought I was just a good marksman.

So much has happened so quickly, even trying to remember seconds ago is difficult. I can't make heads or tails of anything right now. I blurt out the first thing that comes to mind:

"Batman... what exactly are the Elements of Harmony? Are they what made Celestia do... all of this?"

He doesn't make eye contact, he remains fixed on Celestia. "It's like I said, they're powerful magical artifacts that can only be channelled by Celestia and Luna's race. They're not meant to be used all at once, though. I doubt Celestia knew that when she gathered them, and so the magic consumed her mind."

"And Luna...?"

"I don't know what happened to her, only Celestia can answer that. That is, assuming she remembers anything when she wakes up."

I guess we'll be finding out soon, she begins to stir.

"Ungh... wh-where am I? What's going on?" She struggles to even open her eyes.

I open my mouth to speak, but Batman cuts me off:

"Celestia, what's the last thing you remember?"

Batman pressures her, "Celestia, what did you do with your sister Luna?"

"I... I didn't do anything! I couldn't have...the moon..."

The... moon? I remember, she mentioned something about the moon right before Luna vanished, but...

"What about the moon? Celestia, what did you do with Luna? What did you do to the moon?

Her tear dams have broken. "I... she's in the moon... I did that... How...?"

In the moon? "What do you mean 'in the moon'? Do you mean she's on the moon or... inside of it?"

"Neither," Batman answers for her. He's obviously more experienced with magic than I am, "she's made Luna one with the moon itself, bonded. As of now, there's no true difference between the moon and Princess Luna."

Kudos to the show for not have Griffin suddenly decide to be nice and be friends. Dash had to make a genuine choice between her new friends and her bitchy Ex. Things didn't just magically work out

"That's... that's what I did. I don't believe it but... what I've done, everything... can't be forgiven, and should never be..."

I don't know what to say to this. Part of me knows it wasn't her fault, but regardless, Luna's gone. And thanks to that damned spell, she's gone forever... trapped.

She continues, "I- I'm sorry... I don't deserve to live in this world anymore. I can still feel some magic from the Elements of Harmony within me, and with that I'll make sure no one on this planet, no one in this universe, will suffer again by my doing..."

Sh-She's not going to...?

The earth trembles again as she prepares to use the last remaining magic, what is she doing!? I can see her channelling the magic again, this time with an intensity unlike anything I've ever seen, I can barely keep my eyes open.

"Goodbye," she says, "I'm sorry for all I've done."

A boom.

A flash.

By the time my eyes adjust, she's gone, just like Luna. Within seconds I realize the Elements of Harmony are gone too... and the courthouse is rebuilt.

Batman looks as though he actually needed to recover from something that time. "Did she... she didn't seal herself in the sun, did she? Like what she did to Luna?"

He looks me in the eye for the first time since we met. "No, I've seen that flash before. Inter-dimensional travel... she's not even in this Universe anymore. She's banished herself from this reality."

I have an urge to make a CSI Miami intro for MLP now. Just want another episode or two for more footage.

It's been three days since Luna and Celestia disappeared.

I tried talking to Maya about it, but she just looks at me like I'm crazy. Before Batman left, he gave me a radio transmitter, like the one he gave to Luna. He told me that it seems in the same moment she left, Celestia erased all memories of the events from everyone's minds. Everyone except me and Batman, that is. I guess she wanted me to live with the memory of how I failed Luna, and her too.

He also told me that on his way back to Gotham, he went to Equestria, only to see it's been completley wiped off the map. Apparently Celestia brought some friends along with her. So much for isolation. Batman assures me that Celestia must have had a good reason for doing so. I have no reason not to trust him.

What's also interesting is he told me he checked the moon for any recent magical activity, and it displays signs of having experienced inter-dimensional travel. It seems as though Celestia took her sister along with her, probably hoping to someday find a way to break her free.

I guess this is where I'm supposed to forget everything that happened. There are no consequences for me to live with... for all anyone knows it never happened. But I still live with it. Every minute detail of those days will remain burned within my mind for the rest of my days. Surprisingly enough, I'm glad.

Now I know to just stick with murder trials. They're much safer.

I think one of the key things was that earlier on we see the rest of Pinky and Dash's friends taking the jokes lightly and knowing that they were all in good fun. They don't hold it against them or stay angry. Gilda couldn't take a joke, and then called everyone names as a result. Her "rivalry" with Pinky was completely self-made too, Pinky never did so much as a single thing wrong to her the entire time before the party.

Episode 2 was good, but had too many things crammed on it and the resolve was delivered too fast. It still worked, but I think a 3-part pilot would have worked better, especially when it comes to build the friendship bonds among Twilght and the girls she just met hours ago.

Regarding this episode, I liked the way as the initial pranks weren't made with ill intention (Pinkie and Rainbow even laughed when the pranks backfired on them) and they even knew where to draw the line, while a normal cartoon just goes through the "troll everything and everyone" line and call it a day.

Pinkie Pie and Dash pull pranks. People might be a bit annoyed but laugh it off - it's all in good fun. They don't pull pranks on people when they know it might really upset them and generally have a good time.

Gilda shows up... right away, she's mean to Pinkie Pie, trying to exclude her. She yells at her, calls her lame, tells her to buzz off. Pinkie Pie is hurt but says, you know what, maybe I'm wrong. I'll give her a chance.

Gilda's "prank" is scaring an old grandmother. She then steals an apple. And she walks right into Flutttershy, who couldn't see her. Instead of just saying "Whoops sorry!" like a normal person, she freaks the fuck out on her.

Pinkie knows she's a bitch. Decides, hey, let's throw her a party. A party might make her less mean!

There are a few pranks aimed at her, since she is the guest of honor, but nothing deliberately mean or hurtful. During the party she shoves people out of the way, yells at them, threatens Pinkie Pie etc. She then freaks out on EVERYONE, calling them lame, dorks, etc, and then calls out Pinkie Pie when it was Dash who set up most of the pranks anyone.

Gilda is a bitch. Flat-out.

I know I'm gonna sound like an asshole for saying this, but I'm getting really sick of everyone here treating Fluttershy like some kind of sacred cow. As far as backing tracks go, the OP from the dialogue-less episode 4 wouldn't be ideal for use. The 'My Little Pony' parts are still audible normally, and the lines from each of the ponies are still faintly there, only it sounds like they're standing very far away from you in a very large cave.

/co/'s ponybase seems to be about 25% femanon from what I can tell. Night-midnight /co/ has about 3 serious female lifetime pony collectors (one of whom namefags) who answer questions about the old gens for us new fans, and do research on whether any of the background characters are callbacks to previous generation ponies.

As for the quality of the show, the first episode has that "better than expected" feel to it for most of us (which, now thanks to /co/'s hyping, isn't going to factor in for as many people anymore) and try giving the newest episode a watch instead, it's more typical of the show's humor.

Going to have to admit I went on a tangent, really. I do frequently visit /co/ but not enough to make a fair generalisation (paradoxical way of putting it?) about the surge of MLP discussion, I can see. Again, not a troll, not mad, not copypasta. Had to throw it out there since it looks like it's here to stay. Thought I'd at least try to understand the appeal since it's a very general audience posting here from what I can tell.

What does being female or born in the 80s (I was born in 1984, btw) have to do with anything? Why is nostalgia or being in the target market required to enjoy something? If the only reason you watch transformers is because you liked the old transformers....that's retarded. I like this new MLP because I think it's good, not because of some loyalty to some other show. Some original fans DO rage at the new show. But go check out some MLP dedicated boards: Most love it. I myself have a close friend who was huge into MLP when she was younger, and hated the new show at first. I told her to stop expecting it to be the old show, and watch it again with an open mind as if she'd never heard of My Little Pony before. She LOVES it now.

How is the animation garbage? Just because it's a common technique? The animation is smooth, the lines are crisp, and the character designs, backgrounds, and details are top tier. I don't know what more you want.

There's better voice acting out there, but as far as TV animation is concerned, it's pretty damn good. In my opinion if you think the acting in this show is bad, you either don't watch much TV animation or you are jaded beyond belief. Strawberry Shortcake comes on right before MLP, watch that and compare.

IN DEFENSE OF GILDA

This might put me at odds with /co/, but it must be said:

Remember, Gilda and Rainbow Dash used to be great friends. It was also implied that they hadn't seen each other in quite a long time. Seeing as Rainbow Dash has a fucking house and job now, it's probably been a loooooong time since she was in fucking flight school.

Old friend visits, catches up. SUDDENLY, PINKY PIE SHOWS UP. I mean, she follows them everywhere. Gilda wasn't mean the first few times Pinky Pie interrupted and had somewhat nice ways of trying to get her to back off at first.

Think about it like this: Rainbow Dash and Pinky Pie had been hanging out for a few days and they live in the same town. Gilda, since she was crashing at Rainbow Dash's place, can be inferred to live quite a ways away. Pinky could see Rainbow Dash WHENEVER and it would be no big deal; Gilda, however, probably made the trip especially to see her old friend and suddenly someone was butting into their bro time. Wouldn't you be pissed? Then, later, that same interloper was pulling prank after prank on her with all the ponies laughing at her...in a village full of ponies. Then your only friend that you haven't seen in years and traveled a great distance away takes their side over you and you're forced to go all the way home alone and feeling miserable.

I'd be a bitch to them, too.

There isn't really any story, this is true. However, most of us jumped on between the first and second episodes, when it was WARRING GODDESSES, NIGHTMARE MOON, ELEMENTS OF HARMONY, SAVE PONYDOM. Which, for a show of this type, is usually in-depth. That didn't pan out, but by the time this was confirmed (end of ep 2) most of us were already hooked on the characters and the humor anyway, so we didn't care.

Yes, the episode to episode stories are weak, but who cares? They're not the point; just a vehicle for the events of the day. An excuse to put the well-characterized cast into amusing situations. You say you don't like the humor....well I don't know what to tell you there. If you don't like bunny stampedes, buzzing buzzards, or FAAAAAAABULOUS sea serpents...maybe you have no soul. Have you considered the possibility that maybe you are a robot? It's more likely than you think.

I can run with that:

Gilda is a bitch. We know it, Dash probably knows it, and Gilda herself knows it. That's why she likes Rainbow Dash so much: Gilda knows she's difficult to get along with, thus why she treasures her time with Rainbow Dash so much. Without Rainbow Dash, she'd be friendless. The reason she wants to be so cool? Because she's trying to emulate Rainbow Dash, her only friend, and thinks that being "uncool" will make Dash desert her.

That rejection at the end probably destroyed what little happiness and confidence Gilda already had. Not only was her visit completely ruined by some pony who gets to see her former best friend EVERY DAY, but she also lost the only person in the world who used to like her for the way she naturally was. Now Gilda will either have a complete crisis of self and force a drastic personality change or retreat further into her shell of bitchiness until she becomes a bitter, sarcastic, sadistic introvert who only ventures out into society for basic necessities, always cursing the ponies who laughed at her and took away her only friend.

What I can say? I felt... awkward while watching the whole thing, which is weird because I never felt like that while watching the other four episodes... but I shouldn't whine about it, after all, I do not belong to the target audience of this show, so I guess I'll just deal with it... perhaps the next episode will be better.
