like the show itself, it's a good callback to the original series while being updated enough to fit the current audience.

Honestly, for a children's show, and we must remember it is aimed at children, Friendship is Magic has some great credentials. The animation is very good, it flows well while the characters themselves move about as you would expect cartoon ponies would with alot of attention to detail at times. The character designs are simple yet striking, fitting each character well and highly memorable. The characterisation is also fairly simple in that many of the ponies have a specific theme, but at the same time they aren't completely one dimensional. I honestly thought I would get tired of Pinkie Pie but her lines and expressions are often amusing and she is used well to segway into songs or provide comic relief.

The writing for the show is pretty damn good for a children's show, the plot goes through the motions of following basic friendship morals as you would expect, but they are presented well. The dialogue between characters is solid to the point introductions you thought would be dull are actually pretty entertaining. Finally they managed to make a sun and moon gods fighting law and fit it into their friendship is magic theme seamlessly, it actually makes their universe kind of interesting without being complicated.

tl;dr - it's good. For a show aimed at 10 year old girls. I see nothing wrong with adults enjoying it.

I'm pretty sure in episode 2 they have Applejack holding onto Twilight Sparkle with her hooves, after all holding her by her teeth would make it hard to ask her to let go and trust her.

As far as I can tell, they conveniently forget ponies don't have hands where necessary and this is perfectly fine seeing as it's a cartoon about magical ponies. That aside, they often use their mouths or telekinesis where required, but some scenes work better if you can hold on to things.

Frankly there are many cartoon franchises that exist entirely to sell toys, but it hasn't stopped them from being worth watching.

With the current people behind this series, I think it's safe to say we'll get a entertaining show which will then get marketed to hell and back... this is fine, but really I hope this series actually becomes popular with it's target demographic because it's much higher quality then the other shit you see marketed at young girls.

The characters are actually likeable, even the ones you see at first and think they will be shallow as all hell like Rarity.

I was pleasantly surprised that the only part of the show that is in anyway bad is the fact that it's called "Friendship is Magic" which just reeks of executive meddling. But everything else is enjoyable and reasonably fleshed out.

Lately I've been playing M&M for a magic girl game someone is running, the system is a little harder to break by accident (though it's still entirely possible to do it on purpose). I'm not a huge fan of d20, but comparatively it works better the the tri-system BESM uses where someone will inevitably stack physical stats to actually hit something and always dodge well because seriously, the mechanic for those is annoying as hell.
