10/27/10(Wed)08:06 No.20815514God damn, I decided to watch this on account of how much attention /co/ was giving it, I figured they just modernised a old show and it was riding on nostalgia alone.
After watching the first two episodes though, you are right, it is pretty well written and animated for a cartoon to the point I'd actually be disappointed if this doesn't turn out really popular for it's target demographic (young girls that is, not us).
I'm not saying it's a masterpiece, there were several moments where I rolled my eyes as they went through the motions of friendship is magic, but then honestly I think to look down on it for those moments considering the target audience and positive message it wants to present them would be wrong of me.
tl;dr - we need more cartoons like this. The animation is good, the character design is simple but striking, the characterisation is also pretty simple but not shallow and the plot is actually more involving then I thought it would be, I was actually kind of impressed at how fitting their sun god and moon god lore worked. It's a simple concept that has been done dozens of times before, but they made it fit into their world and message of friendship seamlessly. |
