Regarding Terezi, it's important to remember that we saw that Alternian 'JUST1C3' is more or less a sham, and certainly didn't stop Terezi from killing John.
The thing is, Vriska did terrible things, but the closest thing to family she had was a monstrous spider, and it seemed that Doc Scratch did his fair share of manipulating her (...and no, he was not being truthful when he says things like 'he never lies' and 'Vriska would have killed Aradia anyway). But Terezi doesn't have any excuse for her blood lust. She does have enough presence of mind to simulate the experience of murdering people by hanging those scalemates, but when you get down to it, she's at least just as much a monster than Vriska is, and she knows it.

Vriska is technically off the hook since she had an insane man eating Lusus that demands the flesh of young trolls who'd have died to feed Feferi's Lusus anyway. Terezi on the other hand killed because of bullshit Justice. We see one of her games involving a stuffed doll. Hmmm... I think I figured out the Vriska Terezi rivalry, like most of Homestuck, it doesn't have a beginning or an ending. When Karkat was asleep, we know that Nepeta contacted Jade, Terezi contacted Jade, and I suspect that Vriska contacted John. For their initial conversation, Vriska was talking to John for her own nebulous reasons. This changed when John mentioned Terezi, which shifted Vriska into competition mode. ...It is at this point that Terezi becomes kind of a huge bitch, first threatening to murder John, than actually murdering John, and then using Trollian to her advantage and steals Vriska's thunder by (from the kid's chronology) helping John first. She then switches over back to Dave, and her competition with Vriska properly begins.
