hahah, I just watched it with friends. Keep in mind this is a group of friends that normally can't shut up and will make fun of most movies that play.

[spoilers]they were all silent 1/4th way through the movie and every single one of them loved it. When I started spilling everything I knew I was treated as a GOD[/spoilers]

I thought it was alright, BUT nothing nowhere near close to as grand as /co/ makes it up t obe and the same goes to reviewers.

I think it's overrated because it's the first decent movie with some heart made by Dreamworks in a long time. Outside of it, I think the only time I enjoyed a Dreamworks flick was Shrek 2 (thought Shrek 1 was boring).

/co/ fucking hated it when it came out, especially Ruffnut and Astrid. We also thought the dragon was ugly and dumb.

Personally the whole "I have no son" bit seemed pretty heavy-handed to me but the worldbuilding shit and cool lizards made up for it

I've been too busy with work / college to be online much.
I actually bought HTTYD the day it came out, but didn't have time to watch it until today.

    Shit was pretty awesome.

Loved it. Specially the environments. That flying scene at sea and the final fight with the Big Daddy Dragon in 3D felt like a breath of fresh air.

And godamn having the boy hero sound like a 30 year old was annoying. 8 minutes into the movie, when he pretends to be his dad by immitating his voice... UGH. Big mistake. Cracked all suspension of disbelief.

I literally finished watching this movie about 10 minutes ago. I really enjoyed it. A little predictable, but very feel good and worth the $1.50 I paid from the Red Box. Check it out if you haven't.

(I do wish the love interest was a little more fleshed out than "cute pissy bitch" though, but you can't get everything.)

    I'd give it a 4/5.
    >> /co/nan the barbarian 10/23/10(Sat)03:49 No.20724043
Very nice, didn't feel like watching a cliché though it was one in certain aspects. Story gets a slight tweest to it but nothing that annoyed me really.

The only thing I really was disappointed with was the fact that they showed all sorts of cool dragons in the dragon manual and we never get to see them.

Honestly, the movie had quite a few weak areas.

A lot of the characters were not as fleshed out as they should have been, namely the love interest, but the visuals and the relationship with the dragon and the designs and the world was all so good that I didn't care!

The movie's lows aren't that low and the highs are REALLY high.

I finally got my special edition DVD.

Goddamn it, the movie is still awesome, I'm sad at some of the cut scenes and the Boneknapper short is fukken hillarious.

Oh, and in the extra about the voice actors there's an awesome animated segment of Ruffnut breaking Tuffnut's nose on a random act of violence.

Someone needs to make a gif asap.

    I'll be honest.

Despite the flaws and the "predictable/cliched" story, I still rate it above everything Pixar has done so far.

I just like the characters, the setting and the story too much to give it anything other than 10/10.

Once you know the Hero's Journey, every story is predictable.

Whatever I'm watching, I just sit back and wait for the story to take me away.

    To me it is.

Never gave a fuck about any Pixar movie as much as I give a fuck about HTTYD.

For the sake of arguing, yes, I do think characters (other than Hiccup and Toothless) needed more developing.

    Oh, I know.

That's why I used quotations. To reflect the critics opinion, not my own.

I still think they could've found a way to fit some of the cut content in the moive. The movie is somewhat short as it is (for my taste, anway).

    I just watched it yesterday.

    It was great.

With this and Kung-Fu Panda under their belt dreamworks are finally gaining some respect in my book.

Also this is one movie that actually has a good setup for sequels if it happens. There is still a lot of epic shit they could pull. But judging by rescent news, DW is fully aware of that.

    Please don't fuck it up...
