Once again, it is clear from watching that review that she not only didn't watch the show, she didn't even watch the movie. She checked wikipedia for the show, and just sort of skimmed the movie without actually noticing anything. She complains about the ponies not overcoming any conflicts and then just glosses over every conflict.

Hell, she says that they just tell the grundles to fuck off when they ask for help with their 'homeless' problem when they give the grundles a goddamn castle.

So Luna really, really fucked up when she had her hissy. So she goes to time out for 1,000 years. Those ponies are immortal so we can't really judge the span of time in our terms. The Nightmare Moon storyline could have been ended a lot better than it was. I would've liked something about the ponies actually reaching out to her as friends and convincing her to stop the eternal night by treating her like a friend. That would have been a very nice variation of the "power of friendship" thing, and would also teach an important message about forgiveness and understanding. Instead, she was frienship-lasered into a different character, then Princess Celestia shows her a token gesture of kindness while congratulating Twilight Sparkle. It felt like they only acknowledged her motivation as an afterthought.

I'm kind of hoping that they do give Princess Luna some focus, like have her be even more out of touch than Twilight Sparkle, maybe have some of the cast do things with her, but make it clear that she's... different. More likely to be gloomy or angry.
By the end of the season, she becomes Nightmare Moon once again, but because the other ponies actually reached out to her, she doesn't betray them and instead helps them defeat whatever the main villain is. Everyone learns a valuable lesson about accepting others, differences and all.

Woo, man, finally saw it. Let me jump on the bandwagon of complaining for a bit.

Let me get the most controversial statement out of the way by saying that Luna kind of comes off as an abuse victim if anything. She tries to assert herself once, and gets bunged in the moon for it; and - as Celestia implies by saying "a thousand years since I've seen you IN THIS FORM" - only gets any social contact with her sister for all that time. Once the remaining shell of rebellion was destroyed, she broke down into tears. That... that just comes off as creepy. And none of her original problems have been solved. Even the expressions she makes look like it, and she just comes off as submissive and depressing.

Bluh, reading too much into it. Kids' cartoon. Ok, so as others have said, the second episode feels like they took something that would have been several episodes and crushed it down into one. Aside from that, though, and aside from the total sugary cheese of the elements of harmony, I think it was good. The acting, animation and suchlike was all as good as the first episode, with the only notable exception being some of the new angles on nightmare moon's face which came off as sort of derpy. Also I wish she had kept the sparkly star hair when she turned back. Celestia gets a glittery rainbow and Luna gets plain blue? It's not like glitter hair is that hard.

Since there are going to be bad guys, I'm hoping that at some point Princess Luna will be tempted to draw on her nightmare moon powers again, and become some sort of sixth ranger. uh, seventh ranger. Pony.

I just came up with a theory that makes Celestia look better.
Remember that she used the Elements of Harmony in the first place to defeat Nightmare Moon, and knows their location and their nature. And yet Celestia didn't preemptively gather them.
What if the reason she didn't use them again is because she couldn't feel that 'spark of friendship' again. Because if her sister was unable to have any friends when she was trapped on the moon, neither would she.

Just watched it, thought it was great. It did feel kinda rushed compared to the first, but I guess thats it your expecting the NMM fight to be like 20 minutes long. I didnt mind Pinkies song and my opinion of her went up for sure. The big gay dragon was hilarious. I'll be sticking around.
We've been told there would be more villains so I dont think it'll become too slice of life, perhaps story lines that are 2 episodes or so. Luna didnt look all that happy at her party at the end, so she might be getting some development down the road.
Though it would be awesome if Tirec showed up and tried to coax/seduce Luna to the dark side

I don't think Nightmare Moon was a good villain, because "villain" implies being evil, which she was not- she only wanted people to apreciate the beauty of night, and her "evilness", well. Anyone would go batshit crazy after 1,000 years of imprisionment.

Now that she has been redeemed and returned to her rightful place, probably some episodes will be based around her, and since she was returned to a younger form, probably she will join TS's gang at some point, probably to help them to fight some real bad guys and maybe even struggling to not return to her Nightmare Moon's self.

Hell, make an episode based on her and Twilght Sparkle having to put up with Pinkie Pie for a whole day and that will be enough to leave everyone pissing themselves with laughter.

They way this is being written, I'm half excepting the next BBEG to be an evil minotaur bard who hypnotizes his enemies using power metal, or something.

So, alright, let's see. Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, Apple Jack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, and Pinkie Pie. Time to start shipping.

The most obvious pair to me is Rarity and Fluttershy. That just really WORKS in my mind. Classic /LL/ with Rarity as the older, loving, "Don't be afraid, let me teach you something new tonight" near-MILF of the pair, and Fluttershy acting as the naive, innocent, trusting, "I'm scared, but as long as it's you I'll do anything" younger of the two.

Apple Jack and Rainbow Dash are practically established canon, at this point. Rainbow is the spunk and the drive where Apple plays the reason and support. They are the classic, quintessential seme/uke pair.

Which, last but not least, leaves Twilight Sparkle and Pinkie Pie. And far from being the leftovers, I think these two actually work REALLY well together. Twilight gets annoyed with Pinkie sometimes (ok a lot of the time) but she also recognizes Pinkie's carefree, happy-go-lucky attitude and nigh (neigh?) unconditional love and trust as something that is sorely lacking in her life that she desperately needs. And secretly, deep down, she's a little jealous of Pinkie's ability to just be so...happy all the time. Even if she's not willing to trade in her intellect and wisdom for the blissful ignorance required to obtain it. On the other hand Pinkie thinks that, while Twilight can often be a real stick in the mud, she respects and admires her drive, intellect, and convictions. So instead of just giving up on her and brushing her off as someone who's no fun, she stands by her side in an effort to inject a little of that fun and fancy into Twilight's life. And she secretly really enjoys pushing her buttons and watching her reactions.

Man that ended up being way more detailed than I anticipated? What do you guys think? Any other takes or OTPs out there?

I was exceptionally pleased with this episode! If that wasn't Sailor Pony Moon, I don't know what is. Magical tiaras, mystic necklaces, all that shit. Looks like Nightmare Moon has thrown aside her evil ways, so it seems she won't be the main villain people were hoping for like No Heart, Skeletor, Queen Beryl, Aku, etc. She is a really awesome looking pony without the armor though and I'm curious what part she will play from now on.

I really loved the forth wall Disney-like song, I sure as hell didn't see that coming. Immediately after I heard it, I had to go listen to "Prince Ali! Fabulous he! Ali Ababwa!" And again, it's nice to see each of the ponies having their own bit of screen-time. All in all, I'm eager for more!

Favorite scenes in no order:

That was the best scene in the entire episode, and the reason you should watch this cartoon:

There are going to be dopey parts like song-and-dance routines out of nowhere; this is a My Little Pony cartoon after all and it's expected. But the writers here have shown that they're willing to poke fun at the show's stereotypical bits. And that is awesome.
