Yes really. The tone of the main comics does not fit with FIM at all. Not to mention the over use of shitty gags and references instead of actually trying to be funny. Not to mention the ending which sucked ass and the setting being generic fantasy but with ponies.

At least the Micro Series issues, while shitty themselves, try to look like if they came from FIM, specially the Dash issue. which is sad that it was as shitty as it was closer to the show then the main comics

What happens when you go all-out with letting players take the helm is Prequel's fucking drudgingly low point through Kvatch. Everything before Katia getting to the Mage's guild was just Kazerad doing every little inconsequential fucking thing that the players wanted. Having a troll climb over the city walls to prompt action instead of dicking around is not railroading as much as it is a kick in the pants.

Rarity quest is probably the only quest I enjoyed. Tried others but got bored rather quickly.

Well, plan out an overarching structure with plot points you want your players to hit at some point, but flow with the smaller details and player actions.

Really the tricky part is Guiding them to a goal without being heavy handed. Though some of that depends on the tone and length of your quest.

Man, I'd like to do a quest sometime, but it seems like a ton of work.

Coupled with my complete inability to complete projects, I don't want to start one and then flake out on people. A collaborative quest would be a really cool idea.

A lot of it is all up to you. Failure can range from everything from getting back tracked a little, to perma death and game over. Depends on what you want and the story you want to tell.

And its good to have a full story in mind. I do for mine already. It gives you a direction to lead along and a goal in mind. Just don't force everything to follow it. Think big picture, but work with the small stuff. Players are supposed to be interactive. Its the journey, not the destination. Improve is the most important.

And if they don't go the way you want, let them. You can always kinda lead things back or do something completely different
