It's true I don't really understand what was happening but I would like to know more.

Transparent or otherwise low density lines like that seem to come a lot and (in my opinion) it detracts from the image in a very noticeable way every time I see it (much like leaving the sketch layer on for an inked piece)

Is there a benefit that I'm missing?
When I asked about the sketch thing some people said it was to "make the picture seem more dynamic" which wasn't a satisfying answer to me (it seems lazy and sloppy but again, opinions) but that's better than no answer at all

A lot of people are scared of doing lineart because they feel like the energy and flow that their sketches have get lost in stiff, uninteresting lines. It's usually because they aren't sure HOW to make lines interesting yet. So rather than be disappointed in their linework, they leave the sketch layer on, so that they can keep the life AND the lines.

Of course it doesn't always work and people like lines better most times, but i think it's mostly about an artists confindence in their linework compared to their sketches.
