03/27/12(Tue)21:33 No.877501>>877402 DF has the most superficial depth of any game I've encountered. Most of the "depth" only manifests in text, when you read about someone, or go in-depth with combat logs.
The wounds, the materials, the logistics, the temperature stuff, none of that changes how combat actually works in a way that affects player agency. Two people bump into each other, one dies. You put them in good armor, give them good training, and get them good weapons, and they win more often. You can claim that "bumping into each other" combat is suddenly more deep because the game generates pages of text for each fight, but the text is just text, and the gameplay is unaffected. It hasn't changed for years, as far as the player is actually concerned. All it's done is become a more detailed word generator.
None of it makes any difference to the gameplay.
>Most of the depth in the game is shit you simply cannot see and won't find unless you look for it. Exactly my fucking point. |
