Maybe this means just adding a dramatic pause.If done right, you don't even notice this person's contributions at all. If done poorly, the whole pacing of the show is thrown off. It's not just the pace, though. Where characters might seem deep and interesting, they might now seem shallow and flanderized. Jokes can fall flat. Music can be uninspiring. If you look at the first season of the show, the episode are the same length, but they feel much longer. The characters seem more reasonable and interesting. Each segment of the show seems an absorbing part of the show, instead of just a bridge between commercial breaks.It's a very important job. It's called the story editor.There used to be a major talent working as the story editor. Now he's left to work on another successful show.

Look guys. I have to be pessimistic about the show from here on out. It's the only way to live. I was optimistic about the wedding, I was optimistic about S3, and I had my faggot little heart ripped out by the end product. Hardly anything good has happened in-show or out-of-show since Ponyville Confidential and so many episodes in S3 were boring at best and unwatchably bad at worst.I want the show to be great, I hope S4 will be great, but I just don't see it happening if S3, and the S3 finale, is any indication of things to come.Upshot: any good episode or good new piece of canon is a pleasant surprise, no matter how minor.
