My only complaint with Twilights new wings is that they are fucking huge and they made a point of her keeping them unfurled all the time to show off her new wingspan.

It's like they just stuck Celestia sized wings on her but didn't update her frame. Her wings should have been more like S1 Luna's. Kind of dainty and more like the average pegasus. She looks like if she opens just the one wing she'll fall over.

Everyone seems a bit confused as to what the point of Starswirl's spell was and why everything happened as it did.

Here's my theory.

A mark of one's destiny,

Singled out alone fulfilled

I believe he was trying to build a spell that allowed a pony to tap into the energy of other ponies. For instance, if he needed to defeat a powerful foe, he could be the focus for several other ponies who channeled the power of their destiny through him to increase his magic power.

The part he couldn't figure out was the secret of forming the connection, the conduit if you will, from him to the others. Even if they were willing, the magic didn't flow.

Now for Twilight's part:

Together we're friends,

With the marks of our destinies made one,

There is magic without end.

Twilight realized that the love connection between close friends formed a channel by which the magical power of their destinies coudl flow. And when she cast the spell, that's exactly what happened.

That would make sense except they don't need that spell at all. They already have connections to EoH which forms connection between them an channels their energy to power-up the Elements, which, as we know - "the ultimate magic known to ponykind" (quote from s01ep01. Your explanation describes the mechanism of EoH as it is, but SSTB pretty much knew about EoH since exist at the same time and what was the reason to try to duplicate their effect (if it even possible). No, his spell was for something different. Re-read it again, he is not talking about foe or power - he mentioned "destiny". I think this is the key word, especially in the context of an episode.

Also, this is hypothesis, not theory. The latter can be proved on practice, first one is educated guess.

To me MLP:FiM Generation 4 ended yesterday. S3 Episode 13 was the last episode of the 4th generation of MLP. It ended well and was a great series, twilight the nerdy, sarcastic, and somewhat unsociable achieved her destiny of become her princess, made friends, and achieved her dreams.

When Season 4 and EQG starts this will mark Generation 4.5, the original story and plot, that was drawn up was completed and ended yesterday. The new seasons, while still taking the characters, settings, and story; it just won't be the same show.

From what's been said, Fausts original plan was much more adventure driven and less slice of lifey than what we got.

You couldn't really do that, not without reusing background pones. There are not THAT many of them.

You would have to use some kind of pone creator, but you could easily setup color selection limitations and prefab but marks to limit the effect you are worried about
