Applejack waved her hat from the other end of the field. That was the all-clear.
Pinkie Pie hollered, "Geronimo!" as she jumped from the top of the barn. She landed square on the target painted on a wooden plank. Rainbow Dash, who had been sitting on the other end, shot upward far faster than her normal takeoff. With her mane streaming behind her, she was nothing but a rainbow-colored blur against the blue sky. Then, she plummeted. Twilight watched, amazed.
Just before she hit, Rainbow pulled an impossibly tight turn, and flew parallel to the ground. A strange snapping sound roared through the orchard.
A dead tree sat on top of a hill. Rainbow snapped past it-
-and it fell to the ground, sliced neatly in half.
Rainbow pulled up, made some maneuvers to bleed off her speed, and made a perfect four-point landing on the freshly cut stump just as the others trotted up. "Who's the smartest pegasus in Ponyville? That'd be me." With clear pride, she folded her wings and leaped down.
Over Twilight's objections that magic would be quicker, Applejack and Rainbow dragged the massive old tree back to the barn for firewood. "Whew," said Applejack, wiping her forehead, "This is some mighty thirsty work. Twilight, ya wana stay for some juice?"
"No, that's okay," said Twilight. "I was testing a spell that let me see the pegasus magic Rainbow used just now, and I want to get back to the library to sketch it. See you girls later."
