And people do the exact same thing for artists. It's all relative. A good writer in the fandom is judged on a different scale to a good professional writer. Exactly the same thing applies to artfags.

Of course, the average person is more literate than they are artistically educated, so it's easier to spot errors in writing than it is art. Why do people fap over awful artists, just because they happen to be drawing ponies? Because they want pony art and are willing to sacrifice the quality. Exactly the same with writing. fimfiction doesn't have 35k users because nobody enjoys fan fiction.
