Hasbro doesn't want to overcommit, especially with faust leaving entirely at the end of S2. I'm fairly confident we'll see more eps that that, assuming the Faustless crew can handle themselves. the reboot and bronies have quadrupled the google search volume for MLP, and doubled it relative to any point in the past 7 years. The search volume doesn't look like it's leveling off, it's still growing.
Search volume obviously doesn't directly translate into toy/ad sales, but it's not a bad indicator of general excitement about the franchise. I can't directly speak to the profitability of the show, but considering they got a second season and half a 3rd, DHX is probably not charging too much for it to be profitable, so unless they demand a big pay raise, the franchise should be secure enough on the expenditure front. Flash animation is (relatively) cheap, anyway.
