I suppose another inspiration for the alicorn-like suit might have been my brain telling me that the suit would most likely have been designed by Twilight, and thus the earlier models would have been built for a Unicorn; for whatever reason, she wasn't able to use it herself; and so subsequent versions of the suit were made to fit a Pegasus.

I'll see if removing the horn does anything.

Or, I might just go Iron Man and War Machine with them, and draw one for Twilight and RD.

I actually did that for like a week. For every multi-post abuse greentext, I posted an older-style fluffy pony story. For a brief, impossible moment, it seemed like things might turn around.

But then I left them alone for, like, two days during the finale, and it degenerated into mindless abuse again.

Here's the deal with lines. There's a coupla things to consider - what details and forms of the figure are most important and would require the thickest lines, for one. A trick I learned from John K's blog is that to give your character a sense of weight, give thicker lines to the bottom of features. For example, a foot may have thicker lines on the bottom than the top. Also, the obvious thicker lines to portray depth, along with thicker lines being used to highlight an important part of the figure in that particular drawing, maybe the face or a strong hand gesture. In any case, make sure that everything flows, and that's by doing the above.

For colors, I try not to throw saturated shit up unless it's important. I don't color often, I admit, but I do know that many of the best color schemes have a limited palette. It's pointless trying to describe what works in words, so I'll redirect you to where I got my sense of color...
