Realistically, it'd be awkward for me, so I'd try to stay out of the way and just peoplewatch, while enjoying the food and drinks.

I'd watch my favorite ponies, wishing I could strike up a conversation with them, but not having the guts to - and then Pinkie would spot me, pull me away from the wall-flower garden and get me to dance whether I liked it or not.

And it'd be the greatest night of my life as she pulled me around, introducing me to everyone.

I'd make a lot of new friends that night, and it'd all be thanks to her.

Last night we had a quest from Glitter Glue (a very plesant suprise), later a song sining the doom and gloom of the summer to come, some adorable gifs, a rather... strange discussion of Chrysalis' reproduction methods, and made fun of a website that was terrible at predicting who you write like.

Well that's the thing really. I'm trying to move away from 'on-model' because, as people are concurrently pointing out to Nasse, it gets boring drawing the same thing. And on model faces get repetitive quickly.

Just as long as you're not reading utter pap, you're golden. If you really have no clue where to start, just go to your local library and ask what the librarians would recommend.

The basic guide is, "Was this written just so the publisher could churn something out and make a quick buck, or did some writer really put a lot of thought into this?" That's the problem with licensed material. It's just created to advance the publisher's bottom line. Maybe that stuff can be fun, fine, but if you're trying to find out how to write, you need to go looking to truly great literature -- stuff written by people who knew how to craft a fucking sentence without stumbling all over themselves. If you want that, I'd recommend reading whatever you can of classics like Hemmingway or Mark Twain. Yes, they're the staples of your high-school reading list, but that's because, in the end, they're great writers who wrote great, straight-forward prose.

Well, when I said enough I meant that I'd done some. Mostly the body, as you say, since the ponies do actually have some grounding in anatomy there, and working out where the bones go certainly helps with the legs.

It's just the head at the moment, since the pony skull is so very stylized, and trying to undo that ends up look really weird.

Pinkie Pie is only a couple inches tall, and is mostly inside Fluttershy, but instead of pulling herself out, she gets shoved back in as it starts to take effect. What I mean is you seem to be drawing your lines in one go.

This is a good example of messy sketches and clean linework. Don't try to skip straight to linework. Sketch messily but lightly. Use a lot of small strokes to get the rough shapes in place then go over them again and again until the correct shapes are prominent and the stray lines are barely noticeable.
