It depends on the sort of things you get up to, and the sort of person you are.There are people that find their creative pistons start firing when they are relaxed and have done something creative that doesn't involve words, others exercise beforehand, and others still go bat-shit crazy and they find it clears their head.The exercise thing is quite a widely accepted idea, it does work for most people, since the increased blood-flow helps the brain work at higher efficiency. Give that a try.For me, I often draw or doodle. However, the doodles are actually related to what it is I am trying to write about, it helps hone in the brain on things that are eluding you to begin with. Often, I've drawn a doodle, and made a mistake, but that little mistake adds something new to the character, so I roll with it. One of my characters because cross-eyed because I drew him cross-eyed by mistake.

I am writing a fic inspired by H.P. I used to read thesauruses, I enjoyed learning the connections between words, learning the synonyms, antonyms, the correct contextualisations of certain words despite their synonymy with the overall tone of the sentence, all of that shit.I do it now, sometimes, but it's a lot easier because my phone allows me to go back and forth so i don't get lost. The deep and intellectual conversations are pretty damn rare, especially on this board and in these threads.Some of the threads on /vg/ get there, the Mass Effect threads more than others with all the expansion and speculation surrounding all the holes the last game left.Don't see much real, in-depth discussion on the other boards I've frequented.
