Project: Daring is a planned game made mostly by MLPG, based on the adventures of Daring Do. We've got a few people together to help, but we still need people to make parts of the game (especially art and coding). If anyone here thinks they can contribute (or just want to watch this thing crash and burn, as it might) we have a doc with just about everything you need to know:

Keep in mind this is early days yet, and almost nothing is set in stone. It will most likely be a side-scrolling platformer a little like Dino-Run, but with more of a story and hopefully cutscenes. Voice-acting has been brought up, as well. The team has story and music assets made already, but we definitely need more help on this thing. A couple of people mentioned that they'd like to help with the coding especially but haven't been heard from since and didn't leave any way of contacting them.

If you're interested about helping, leave a comment on the doc, send us an email, or jump into the IRC. We're trying to get everyone interested in the IRC channel at 6pm EST this Friday, too.

Organising? Yes. Along with the anon who had the idea, I've put together the doc, made an email and blog, set up the IRC channel, emailed several people who DID leave their contact details with us, and of course advertised here for more people to help. In addition I've been here the entire time to bounce ideas off of, and provide criticisms and suggestions. I don't personally plan to take credit for this project, and I know full well it's a group endeavour.

Yeah, if it's mediocre, there's always gonna be people who say "it's shit" and leave it at that, but even the most average of attempts will usually get one or two people who say "I like it" or "Looks good", so long as they don't have the misfortune of posting it a minute before someone comes in with some fucking masterpiece.

No, fuck you. That "anything goes" attitude is WHY these projects fail. Nobody is saying stop, they're saying think very hard before you start. A simple (technologically) game is not an unreasonable goal, but it's not something you can achieve without decent planning and effort - and typically, an "ideas guy" is an ideas guy because they don't really care enough to put the latter in and actually learn how to do something.

I would never, EVER say don't. Even if you fail, it's fun. I've seen too many people fail to stay silent when somebody is on the path.

needless to say, that completely failed, but I kept shrinking the project down and down until it was just a simple single-player RPG. That reminds me, I dreamt a whole episode of pony.

Rainbow Dash was some sort of secret agent, and asked me to help her in a case, where we had to find the head of a mafia that was smuggling petrol and attenuated it with all kinds of shit.
So we got in a car and went to a factory like thingy, we sneaked in, and managed to get to the office of the boss unnoticed, but she (she was a tan earth pony mare) expected us, and shot Dash, and then began to explain her plans to me, but then it turned out Dash is still alive, so when she stepped over to her to finish her I tackled her and choked her with my arm until she fainted.
Then the cops arrived to the factory, there was shooting downstairs, we secured the boss mare, our reinforcements found us, the boss mare was jailed, and Dash survived, ending title. Yeah, there was a letter to Celestia by Twilight, but I can't remember it.

Then I met Emma Watson on a train and hooked up with her

I'm not talking out of jealousy, but compassion - there are ways they can make it work, and that involves getting something together themselves. Anybody can make a platformer in Game Maker, anybody. Alright, I think there's something of a misconception here. It's not really my idea, I just saw an anon suggest it, looked through the group discussion doc and saw a completely disorganised mess. Alright, I feel like I got off message.

I don't mean to badmouth Hoppip; I love his work. I just don't like the impression I got that he's using his amateur experience to talk down to other amateurs. It just seems a bit arrogant and spiteful to me.

I just wish people would be a bit more helpful to this guy rather than dismiss him entirely. I'm not sure what I feel about this argument around me and the project. On one hand, I don't want this to go full hugbox, and I am fully aware that this project will mostly likely fail at some stage. Hoppip, since you seem to have some experience with this kind of thing, you could definitely help us by showing up to the IRC meet-up I've mentioned before. If you want to see this project succeed, the only person who can do that is you. Look around, do your research, see what you can contribute. You can do it entirely on your own if you must - it won't be as good as with a team of people who've dedicated themselves to different areas, but it'd get done.

Python. It'll let you dabble in basically every style of programming, there's absolutely no unneccesary overhead to learning, and it has an interactive shell that's invaluable for getting to grips with language basics.

Object Orientation is a really, really fucking important concept in software design, and a few years just flat out isn't enough to teach somebody enough about programming that everybody's skills become language agnostic enough to switch trivially from something like python to a more popular business language.
