Relationships in pony land DO have power. "Friendship is Magic" is literal, that's what Twilight is researching. It makes sense that love, which can be seen as stronger than friendship, is stronger than friendship magic.

Now, the EoH AREN'T friendship magic inherently, they're another source of magic that require friends to harness, so there's no need for the power of love to outdo the EoH, so we can get that out of the way.

Chrissy was a member of a race who could turn love into power, and she had the complete adoration of one of the strongest unicorns in the land who specialised in *repelling attacks*. Celestia attacked first, Chris made a defensive action powered by the love of an incredibly powerful defensive unicorn, so her defeat is valid, I think.

Later on, when Shiny Arm is rescued and they use the power of lurve to defeat everything, that's between, again, an incredibly powerful defensive unicorn and the literal goddess of love. If anybody can harness love for energy, it's a love goddess who both loves and is loved by the person she's harnessing it with. Chrissy, now cut off from that love, would be weaker and unable to fight back, and the minions never stood a chance.

Could they outdo the EoH? Fuck no. Could they outdo Celestia in a fair fight? Probably, Candyass is an alicorn too, just her powers are centered around love, not the sun.

You're admirable for your dedication to in show explanations but I can tear it apart using a few things.
I'm really sad to have to being using double think here but what else can I do, certainly not rationalize it with as much double think as you are.

In the hands of a capable writer, Shining could be shaped into a pretty interesting character. The relationship dynamics between him, Twilight and Celestia is too good to not be used.

He is duty-bound to Celestia and loves his Twily. Things could be interesting if these two characteristics came into a conflict. Would he break rank to save his sister? and knowing that Twilight is a wielder of an element, he would be worried every time Celestia sends her to a potentially lethal quest.

Same goes with Twilight. She might see Celestia as her mentor, but will she forgive her if Celestia puts her brother in danger?

I'd hate to be Celestia considering that she holds the life of both her niece's husband, and her protegee's brother in her hoof.

McCarthy is one of the best writers on the show. Her hands were tied by the 44-minute time limit, and the shoe-horning of new characters, and the overarching plot of the episodes.

My thought as well. I like Fluttershy and she the top pony for me, but her role is lacking in Season 2. What I'm saying, is that this is the first time this brand has actually produced a bearable and enjoyable show. Because this is the first time, I'm not expecting it to be consistent every single time. Sure, the episodes had their flaws, but I honestly over looked it. I love over analyzing it as much as you guys do, I've been doing that from the beginning, but what I'm saying at this point, is I've gone the more casual route like that guy with the bad english.
