I kinda thought it was something like this. I can tell from his art that he has been doing digital for a very long time because his style and techniques are reminiscent of the time in the 90s and early 2000s when drawing with photoshop was still a new thing without anyone having figured it out, so they just overused soft brushes and filters and such. Most people have stopped doing that.

This is what always gets me about this kind of article. They always say something about the show's morals, probably because they always ask a brony and bronies always mention them for some reason, like the moral lessons from a children's show are the only thing preventing them from being total assholes.

I mean, yes, the morals are normally okay, but you shouldn't be learning anything new unless you're five years old.

The textures are mostly for randomization, after he uses a color filter on all the textures it's just a matter of color picking, adding some vague brush strokes, then some very specific highlights/darks. You'd be surprised how good you can make something when you can hide it in shadow.
