>Heads. You always seem to start them off as perfect circles, and then just either paint or hang the other features on or over.
>Which, as the show goes is accurate; it's a flash cartoon, that's how they're built. But accurate is boring. It's like pasting the same vector drawing over and over. You've seen it once, you probably don't need to see it again. It doesn't so much matter on the show, because it's animated. There it's more about fluid motion than the stills.
>But you're just meticulously copying it out each time. It looks correct, because it's accurate. But boring, because there's nothing interesting and you've seen it before.
>So, two things, which are kinda linked: >1. Anatomy. Look at the head as a head, rather than a circle with a snout. Circles are boring. Figure out the shape of it in a 3D space. How it looks at multiple angles, how light would interact with it. How does the skull work, where do the jaw and cheeks go. >2. Keep it interesting. Go beyond the simple expressions in screencaps. Use the whole face (and body) to convey an emotion, don't just add a small curve to indicate a smile and maybe change the eyebrows. Exaggerate if needed; you don't have to be exact, you want to convey something.
>I'll leave you alone now.
Also I'm supposed to find out why I think some pictures are lively and interesting and good so I'd see why my own pictures suck |
