The post in question came off as just generic shitposting posing as an anon who've never discuss the show.

He just creating a visage of anon who's been since the beginning and absolutely hates what MLPG has become but in reality he's just some shitposter from /b/.

Flying Applejack would be a rival to AJ, rather than Fluttershy's foil. It would also probably give her a sense of freedom, being able to directly affect her harvest and not be chained down to the family's land.

Grounded Fluttershy (aka Posey) probably wouldn't be much different. She already has a good amount of self-sufficiency, but being an earth pony would mean she has natural talent (BEFORE her special talent) for working with plants and animals. She'd be her own self-sufficient little pony, and would probably get either a confidance bump or an introversion bump.

It's a lot of reasons, really. It's the most decent group of people to talk about ponies with sans the shitposters, there's some sense of loyalty although it's not an important factor, by sticking around here I get to see pretty much all new fanart, I'm kept up to date on everything pony-related, and since MLPG is such a huge crossboard melting pot, I'm also kept up to date on mostly everything that matters somewhat on 4chan.

Seeing as how many of the same people are here daily then discussing opinions about episodes can only go so far. Suggesting theories about the show, or trying to explain why things are the way they are is a pretty natural next step to take. Some would call that fannon I guess, and therefore garbage, but I enjoy it. I never take it seriously, and I'm just trying to have fun with a show that I like.

Fluttershy's practically an earth pony already so not having had wings her life wouldn't make much difference beyond her having a chance to slowly grow to like nature rather than a sudden "What is this place filled with so many wonders".
Maybe if she'd grown up on the ground she might have found a way to use her talent more in-pony-society as a vet or similar instead of living alone in the woods taking care of the wild animals, since when she found her talent as a flier it was in a new place where she didn't know anyone, and she'd be more likely to avoid integrating until she felt safe and had someone she knew personally to enter into Ponyville society with (Dash arriving? Her meeting Rarity alone somehow?) because >shy.

Applejack kind of needs to have grown up on the farm; the whole Apple family farm thing doesn't really work otherwise. So she wouldn't be a Cloudsdale-er our current pegasus duo, and I can't really see her having flight making much of a difference if she's had that same upbringing.
