And the world building was not more significant or "broadening" than Gilda appearing in episode 5. (Or was it 4?) There was nothing done with it, and if the changelings would be cut from the canon it would change literally nothing - just a thing thrown in by the writers to make a wedding more interesting, and then forgotten about.
