Seven is just an optimized Vista.

However, the specifications of the computer are more important. With Vista, Microsoft didn't exercise as much control over what companies could install, so most store bought ones had terrible performance because of bloatware.

As an example, my tablet laptop has about 100 running processes when restored to factory settings. When I do a clean install of Vista plus drivers, I'm down to 66, which REALLY helps perfomance. Can't get 7 because Wacom drivers though.
