>you both begin to panic >she yells for you to pull her up >you comply, pulling with all your might >she's halway up and rising >you can see the branch giving way >you give it every ounce of strength you have >just as she reaches the branch, it snaps >the rope catches on the tree, sending her in an arc directly towards you >she screams, holding on for dear life >suddenly, the remaining limb breaks >the rope goes limp >she flies directly into you, knocking you to the ground >you both lie there breathing heavily for a moment >"Thanks for breaking my fall," she finally says, looking up at you. >You tell her it wasn't hard, before dusting off her helmet and handing it to her >she smiles and puts it back on top of her head. >she brings up herother arm >she's still holding the sword >she beams at you >you respond by hugging her tightly >she actually hugs you back >you look up at the sky >the stars are almost visible >the sun has dissapeared beneath the horizon, its last light illuminating the forest >you pick her up and dust yourself off >"Lets go. It'll already be dark when we get back." >she nods and starts walking back down the trail, holding her prize proudly in her hands >this time though, you walk next to her, not behind her >you both marvel at the adventure you've shared, and the trophy you've won >then, you marvel at the great friend you sharde it with. >she hands you the sword, smiling. >she doesn't say a word as she takes your hand, and the two of you step back onto the pavement. >... >... >... >You turn the weathered plank over in your hands. >There's still a speck of dirt in it. >You pick it out. >The door opens with a creak. >"Come on dear, dinner's already cooling off." >You sigh, placing the old sword back on the shelf you took it from. >"Be there in a minute... Do." >The door stops, and you hear a chuckle. >"You haven't called me that in years."
