Can we get a thread with just MLP casuals in here?

    You know what I mean.
    >The people that just watch the show and don't talk about with people irl because it'd be boring.
    >The people that don't draw fanart or don't call themselves bronies or make-up stupid shipping pairs.
    >The people that don't fucking jack off to ponies.
    >The people that would never dream of going to the meetups because it's pathetic and desperate to bond with others over a kids show.
    >The people that get bored with most of the episodes because the plots are focused towards kids who haven't learned them yet.
    >The people that don't put FiM above a cute 30 sec cat video.

Personally, I thought the cider episode really lagged in the middle, it just wasn't going anywhere interesting. Newest one with Dash had some funny faces in it, but I lost interest with the Indiana Jones story.
My favorite so far is the one with Pinkie and the babies.

I like discussing the shows but can do without the fanfics and other crap. I haven't discovered a real good place on the net to discuss the shows yet. Here is too busy, equestria daily isn't structured as a msgboard, ponysquare tilts too young, other places aren't busy enough etc. Ponychan is ok but i'm not a big fan of the chan format.

Being from the early 80s, to me MLP is and will always be a show for kiddies. G4 art style is good, but the show itself is a bit bland: nothing more than a kiddies' show.

    BUT........
On the other hand, the fandom is quite intriguing: you all know about the infamous "bottom of the barrel", don't you? Well, watching the fandom is like seeing this bottom transcending to mystical depths.

So's half of the other things that get discussed on this board but you're wording this criticism as if it only applies to MLP.

The extent to which ponies have taken over someone's life.

A fan watches the show, maybe chats a bit online and then carries on with their daily buisness.

A brony watches the show twice, debates for hours over the names of the background characters, writes an in-depth analysis on Ponies for their English class, does pony presentations at school, writes fanfic, draws fanart and otherwise builds their lives around ponies

The sub-brony does all of the above in addition to jacking it to horses

I think most fans can't be honest about when they see an episode they didn't like.

They always try to explain their way out of it somehow.

    Nope, it's different.
Let me explain: when i was a kid there were 2 kinds of tv shows, for kids and for teens and MLP was definitely of the 1st kind. No amount of edgier themes, catchier theme songs, or even cultural references, can change that fact.

I'm not criticizing the show for being childish, i'm simply stating that it's not anything special. Good art style, but that's pretty much all.

And, last but not least, i'm not forgetting that it was something that my female classmates watched, when i was 8 (while we watched Saint Seiya)

True, there have been tons of cartoon over the years that were aimed at kids but have elements adults can appreciate, back to Bugs Bunny in the 1930s really.

One attraction of MLP to men may be that in the Main 6 are characters onto which men project their ideal mate. You want brainy, there's Twilight Sparkle. You want sophisticated, there's Rarity. And so on. These kind of men are generally socially awkward IRL, so the show works as a sort of release in a way that oh, Spongebob Squarepants doesn't.

    Fuck. That. Shit.

Bronies deserve to be attacked for their sexist, priveleged views. This is a show for little girls. Let them have it. If you enjoy it, too, that's fine, but *you are ancillary*.

It's one of the few properties on TV aimed entirely at women that isn't focused on relationship dramas and is even rarer in providing good social lessons for young girls, who are very under represented in children's media. And male nerds still want it to be about them, to the detriment of an audience with almost nothing to call its own. It's a pretty perfect confluence of all the things wrong with the online "nerd" community as it exists.

The Flim Flam brother's song reminded me a lot of Winter Wrap Up, given how large scale it was with the ensemble and all that. Never mind it was essentially a show tune, so you're never going to get it out of your head. The music in MLP is probably one of my favorite parts, although from what i've seen I might be one of the few people who thinks so.

There are two MLP threads on the front page. Yes I know the supposed point of this thread is to avoid those clearly inferior other pony fans, but come on. Homestuck fags can keep it to one thread, pony threads usually manage to keep it to one these days, can't you just use the other thread so /co/ doesn't have a reasonable excuse to complain about you spamming your threads everywhere? If the last thread is so bad, ignore bad posts and reply to good ones. Trying to make a 'good' pony thread and a 'bad' pony thread isn't going to fix anything.

I wish we had more threads for the casuals. I don't mind the shippers and fanartists. But I find myself hardly ever contributing to those threads because I don't draw ponies anymore since it first started airing, and I've never written a fanfic from any show. though, i wouldn't mind trying it at least once to see what's so (fun?) about it. Not including MLP

I really enjoyed this newer episode. Though the Indiana Jones story felt really rushed. But I suppose that's a given due to the air time limit.
So far my fav eps for this season was the two-parter and the one where they explain how Ponyville was founded. I really like the episodes that dwell more into the lore behind Equestria.

I don't care how awful the generals are. I don't care if every second post is talking about pony diarrhea, or porn, or bitching about tripfags, or whatever. Everyone else manages to keep their discussion of a show to one thread. Peoples inability to do this with MLP caused it to be the one and only /co/ related thing that was completely banned from /co/, even temporarily, because of the constant, unrelenting spam.
If the MLP generals are so bad, either try and make it better or go to one of the many websites specifically aimed at discussing this 5 year old girls show, we don't want your crappy threads cluttering up the frontpage.

Don't you remember the massive shitstorm a year ago?

Ponies were used to troll virtually every board on /b/. They were the ultimate derail. It caused a lot of shit, moot dropped the banhammer on pony threads, but then he took steps to allow the "normal" fans their thread while trying to prevent derails on other boards. /b/ was especially hit hard by pony derails. Most boards had it at some point.

The MLPG is an attempt to keep ponyfags in one place, where they could do as they pleased without affecting anyone else.

    MLPG mainstay reporting for duty.

I don't write fanfiction, I don't draw, I don't own any merch, I don't evangelize the show like it's a fucking religion, and I don't jerk off to the porn. That said, I'm willing to admit that I'm more or less obsessed with the show itself. I really wish I wasn't.

Regarding MLPG: I basically hang out there because I'm completely addicted to it, and I feel like I'll miss out on something if I don't participate in at least one or two threads per day. Which is stupid, because I never actually miss out on anything. It really is just the same stupid shit over and over again with a heaping side of attention whoring.

The really sad thing is, MLPG is actually the best place to talk about the actual show, especially on days when new episodes air. Some of the other regulars and tripfags are pretty cool. And the alternatives to MLPG aren't appealing in the least - Ponychan is way too strictly moderated, the Reddit forum totally sucks, FiMchan is a ghost town...

Not even Homestuck fags have their own specific lingo. You don't see them proudly talking about clopping to hooffic or whatever you freaks call erotica.

I have to wonder, how many of your parents know about your obsession with this show? And how many of your fathers are dissapoint? Seriously, it's like you set out to be parodies of that weeaboo kid in that comic.

There is currently speculation as to what this wedding role actually plays, is Cadence a new addition to the show's character lineup, or is she part of a fairy-tale that's told?

No one knows, but the fans who hate the idea of 3 Alicorns have steadfastly held onto the theory that it's a fairytale.

A lot of the fans have their own "headcanon or "fanon". Some of the more autistic fans go by every word uttered by Lauren Faust (the show's creator) and treat it as gospel.

Lauren Faust has no part in the show anymore, yet a fan decided to ask her about Cadence. Lauren said if it were up to her, Celestia and Luna would be the only Alicorns, there would be no more. So, naturally, the fans who want to plant their seed in Faust hold onto the belief that Cadence is a fairy-tale metaphor told to child-ponies. They just cannot accept the possibility that the show does not belong to them, so they search for ways to mentally block anything their assburgers cannot handle.

I love the shit out of this cartoon, and people like you are total dumbasses. It's a 22 minute toy commercial - sure it's funny and looks nice and everything - but that's what Hasbro set out to make, a toy commercial for little children.

I'm sure the writers can handle whatever Hasbro wants put into the show without compromising the so-called "integrity" of the program - they've done pretty well so far.

Most of the characters were created by Faust who was given a lot of creative freedom in therms of characterisation, yes, but she still had to create the characters specifically so that toys would sell.

For example, we have Rarity's carousel boutique, Twilight's library house, Pinkie Pie's balloon, etc, they were featured in episodes and the related toys were released not long after the episode aired.

Hasbro gave Faust creative freedom with the episodes, but they still worked closely with her in order to make the whole thing work.

Lauren's got a lot of experience with toy-production and marketing, she has the Galaxy Girl's toy line, so Lauren knows a thing or two about marketing to girls.

Remember reading that somewhere, Think Lauren fought for the Gala and made it so it hints at it instead of, NEXT TIME ON DRAGON BALL Z... you get the idea, remember they need to sell toys and that's there main goal with every show they do.

But none the less wish we had some build up to something.

I don't have any screencaps, so you'll have to take my word on this one:

I was browsing the MLPG and one of the anons posted a link to a Ponychan thread where a young man had posted a >feel story about how MLP inspired him to be a better person somehow. I wont post the story because it's boring and quite pathetic, worthy of the best spaghetti >greentexts. Anyway, it was a "harrowing tale", so one of the posters linked the thread to Lauren's Deviantart page, and she posted in the thread congratulating him for growing a pair.

So, she does talk to the internet fans on the odd occasion.

Well, season two was still a thing on the horizon, then. They had something to "stay alive for." And we all saw how that turned out. Basically cannibalism as they searched for anything to discuss. After the show itself ends, the generals will die off, people will wander away, and with luck people will look back fondly on the twilight of the show.
    This is optimism, of course.

They do have a point though, the fandom has become self-sustaining enough to survive without the show at this point. MLPG is 30% show, 70% fanon, fanfiction, clopping, etc. It would still slow down when the show ends though, probably to the point of there only being one general a day, if that.

I want this fandom to die down as much as everyone else in this thread, but I highly doubt it'll die down anytime soon, especially after the show ends. Because like everyone here knows most of the people that watch the show feel the need to talk about it 24/7, plus after the show ends most of the fans will be bawwwing and creaming their pants over how it ended. (I think I even head that the bronies are going to attempt to pill off some recreation of the show after it's finished airing, but I don't know the legitimacy of this claim so don't quote me on it).

It's going to take a long time for this fandom to die down, but the unfortunate truth is that most fandoms never truly die, just look at the furries, sonicfags, weeaboos, etc., all of these fandoms were hated fa and wide all over the internet but as time went on the progression of them died down. Of course, you can still find people of said fandoms on the internet but for the most part they keep it to themselves.

We can only hope for the best.

MLPG (I am an MLPGer by the way) hates Ponychan with a passion because it's so heavily moderated. You cannot say anything that does not follow the hivemind (ponychan is as close to a hivemind as you'll get), if you do, you get banned.

Someone got banned for saying Derpy is a very ugly pony. It's an in joke with MLPG now.

Am I the only person who gets high and finds speculating about cartoon bullshit amusing? Of course there's no actual serial killers running around in Ponyville, but it's funny to think about implications.

Everytime, weather it's Spongebob or Adventure Time people are speculating on, someone chimes in with this "why are you thinking about this?"

I just like how, even if the stories are largely independent, they do keep some continuity.

Like In Feeling Pinkie Keen, where Fluttershy remembers Pinkie's song from Dragonshy. Or in the new Cider Squeezy Ep, where Applejack accepts her friend's help the -first- time they offer unlike in Applebuck Season, and then tells the Princess "Yeah, I learned that lesson already."

I use it as a metaphor for people's attitude around me. It's almost as if, because I have asperger's, I could literally do anything I wanted and I could get away with it. Seriously, if I jumped up and started throwing shit around, people would go "Oh, he's got asperger's syndrome so he's a bit like that". The point is, these people without anything "wrong" with them try to act as though they are our protectors, as if we are incapable of expressing our displeasure with something they must do it for us, yet they do not understand us in the slightest. It doesn't take a genius to know people with asperger's or high functioning autism do not throw shit around as part of their condition, but people are so closed minded yet they purport themselves as open minded. I love the juxtaposition.

I agree. The mane 6 saying reading is cool at the begining diffused to conflict. Rainbow dash becomes that one freind who continues to hold an unpopular opinion in an exagerated way. Like that one guy you know who insists the Insane Clown Posse is "actually a totally legit band, man. Their shit is cool."

Also the story presented, while chock full of Indiana Jones Homages, unfolds more like a Golden Age adventure serial than a novel. That's what I'm going to pretend it was, some kind of hardcover comic collection.

Dash in a Hoodie was cute though, and I like watching (uh, listening to?) Ashleigh Ball play the character.
