Hey bronies, wanted to share my email I sent to Hasbro.
To Hasbro,
I enjoyed and watched the first season of My Little Pony on iTunes with my twin boy and girl cousins, who are around five. After hearing the hype online from people on discussion boards, it was great to find something both they and I enjoyed. I've had to move away from them since last year, but they demand I watch the second season every week and call them to tell them what I think.

They and I recently watched the episode with the character 'Derpy' who had odd-set eyes, a clumsy attitude and a 'funny' spin on what appeared to be an eye disability. Simply put, he loved the character. We all laughed so much, and it was a perfect launchpad to talk with him about his condition and brilliant to see the other ponies on the show interact in a realistic, pleasant and humorous manner, and so even the other twin can now relate better as a result. I personally enjoyed it too and I personally think that if a Derpy character existed when I was his age, I may have been a little more confident and less hard on myself.
I thank you for, even if unintentionally, helping my little cousin understand his condition and feel better about it. After I read online you were considering changing the character in some way I felt I had to write, and also as I imagine I'm not the only one touched by this wonderful character and this wonderful show. It would be a great shame if you did alter the character, as I've officially nicknamed my cousin Derpy, and it would break also his little heart. Thank you again for a bringing my cousin closer to understanding, and bringing all of us closer together.
I've attached a picture of myself (spot the squinter...), my two brothers (who find us watching the show hilarious) and cousins Derpy and Derpette. I apologize I couldn't find the picture of the ponies I drew for them! |
