>>33871188 I like that card (I'm the guy you're replying to). Reminds me of Coalition Victory, one of my favorite cards. In fact, this (pic) was my desktop for months! That said, it should be an enchantment that triggers at the beginning of upkeep like the others. You don't have experience to know why that is, though, so it slides.
That deckbuilder's toolkit sounds great, though. It's kind of like what I described.
As for the number of lands you want and the number of each card you have, those are things you pick up with experience. The reason "serious" decks get played so much is because you're looking for weaknesses, ways to improve. You play five games and notice you're running low on lands EVERY TIME? Stick a few more in. Too many lands and no creatures? Adjust.
Leveraging card value, though, is a mix of that and experience. When you play a lot of magic, you see the value in a card almost reflexively, because you think of ways it can be played with other cards. Think of it a bit like chess:
They say in chess, you become a master by reading books, but become a grandmaster by ignoring them. This is because masters memorize thousands of patterns and try to exploit them (then become grandmasters by finding new patterns that aren't from books).
So that will come with time! Until then, gatherer is a great resource, because people rate and comment on cards. Let them help you until you get a feel for yourself. |
