Applebloom looked to Spike with concern in her big, expressive amber eyes. “Say, what’re we doin’ way out here, Spike?”
Feigning ignorance, Spike shrugged his shoulders and shook his head. “Errands for Twilight, you know, that pony works me like a mule. I’m just lucky I ran into you, I wouldn’t want to go so close to the Everfree Forest alone...n-not that I'm scared or nothing!” That last part was stammered out, he was a bit nervous and he wasn’t all that great at lying. Spike had been watching Applebloom from afar for a while, keeping track of her daily movements so when he rounded up enough courage he could bump into her ‘accidentally.’
“Oh. Okay, then.” He lied a little better than he thought; she was none-the-wiser. She continued, bursting with her usual energy, “So what’re we doing huh? Hunting monsters? Fighting off pony-eating plants?!”
“Celestia, no! I mean—we’re just trying to find a special herb for her.” Another lie. After coming to a small clearing, Spike suggested that they take a little break.
“Applebloom…erm, is there anyone that you like?”
“I like everyone, silly. Except Diamond Tiara and all those—“
“Not like…like-like, you know....” Spike trailed off, twiddling his claw and kicking at a patch of dirt bashfully.
“Uh…nope?”
“What about someone who isn’t a pony? Someone who doesn’t care if you’re flank is blank and likes the way you talk and thinks you’re ten times prettier than any of the other fillies?” |
