Well, the story that got made up during the thread I first mentioned it went like this: After Junoir Speedsters camp, Dash's attitude began to worsen because without Fluttershy or Gilda, Dash was now out of friends and there wasn't anyone else who'd give her the time of day. Her grades and behavior declined and the Flight School headmaster tried to warn her she was at risk of flunking out, Rainbow Dash then pulled a "You can't fire me, I quit!" and dropped out, even though her education was still salvageable.
She began bumming around, traveling, possibly delving into theft to make ends meet and being a general prick.
One day, she makes trouble with this elderly earth pony... And then wakes up the next morning in his home. He offers her a helping hand and she tells him to screw off, it's a game of cat and owner, the cat keeps running away but keeps coming back, and the master waits patiently and lovingly for the cat to return. From this point on, Rainbow Dash learns the power of loyalty.
