>>32574208 I've put some thought into it. I think it might be a subconscious effort people exert to prevent them from spankin' it to ponies. In most cases, people develop a pretty solid obsession for the first few weeks, pony pervading one's thoughts through most things. That alone could be part of the reason: Pony filling the gap that would usually think about sexual release. Barring that idea for the moment, given that pony is constantly on one's mind, it may end up leaking into it while performing the act. Given that the individual almost always finds this idea inherently repulsive, their subconscious suppresses the desire to even put them in the situation where it could occur.
Eventually, though, the obsessions stage will begin to wear off, and the urge will take over. The question now, is whether the person in question goes back to normal, or ends up succumbing to what was once preventing their action, as a new sort of alluring taboo.
Or there's the alternative hypothesis that we're all losers and use masturbation as a relief from boredom, which is unneeded during that period.
