A tablet is okay for starting out... In my honest opinion, a tablet will only slow a beginner's learning experience. With traditional media, you have to develop confidence with your lines. You can undo lines easily on a computer, but with pencil and paper, a eraser creates smudges and all sorts of blemishes. You learn not to make the mistake in the first place. Also with traditional media, you're able to carry a sketch book around and practice more often than you're able to with a tablet and a computer. This is just my opinion though.

I think it you need to put a bit more time in your work. Good drawings take time. Put some hours into a single drawing. There might be some details that you left out. Some errors that may be fixed. It may turn out like crap, but you eventually learn what to do and what not to do.
