This came to me not long ago. Perhaps it is more suitable for fanfiction than for broadcast, but anyway. It's one of those fanfiction cliches: the portal between worlds. Only, there's no interspecies romance, or hilarious hijinks. Earth, to the ponies, is a high-gravity death-world, with a thin atmosphere and lower partial pressure of oxygen. That's how the pegasi and griffons fly, incidentally--lower gravity and thicker atmosphere. That's also how Celestia's castle in Canterlot can look so goofy and crooked and cartoony. On Earth, gravity would tear it down.
Interaction with Earth lifeforms doesn't go well either. A feral Earth housecat comes through, and acts like an actual small carnivore. It jumps five meters straight up in the low gravity and grabs a songbird out of the air, and EATS it, to everyone's horror. And when humans finally arrive, the ponies are terrified almost to the point of madness, because to them, humans are hideous, fearsome aliens.
Maybe Twilight has a monologue about it. "Imagine thinking, reasoning beings that are as intelligent as a pony, and reason and solve problems as well as a pony, but DON'T think like a pony, because they aren't ponies... These are like grizzly bears or honey badgers, but with opposable thumbs and big brains. They eat flesh, and they use tools, and they hunt in packs. Some specific individuals among them have demonstrated a capacity to accept us for what we are, without exploiting or destroying us, but in the aggregate--it was inevitable. What arrogance led us to think we could communicate with them? What madness led us to try to trade with them? I, Twilight Sparkle, once student of Princess Celestia, leave this message here in the hopes that someone wiser than we will find it, and learnt from our mistakes..." |
