The wendigos were Discords first attempt to mess with the different pony groups. The heart warming was what foiled his fun in the short term and in the long term. After the wendigos are defeated and the tribes are united, Luna and Celestia are born, however Discord continues to toy with ponies over time. Being from multiple tribes they were obsessed with the heartwarming and how it brought people together. Researching it further they discovered the elements of harmony.
