MLP:FiM is a cartoon developed by Lauren Faust for consumption by young girls and their parents at the behest of Hasbro, the Hub's Parent Company.
It's character designs are simplistic and work from a generic blank easily discernible in each pony's design. Characters are delineated based on coloration, accessories, mane, and tail designs. Characters are further differentiated by action and dialogue.
Working initially from a fantastic (that is, fantasy) premise, the series expanded upon this into a slice-of-life melodrama of everyday life in Ponyville and the surrounding areas. Conflict arises from interpersonal relations and occasional pony and non-ponies from beyond the perimeter of the village.
The introduction of the "____" general is perhaps the single worst thread-board organization structure created thus far. It lends itself towards ever increasing inward spirals of content and population.
Exhaustive conversation on the same topics by the same people has lead to the formation of sub-communities within the board system linked not by subject discussion, but by interpersonal relationships formed through the context of discussion. This linking of individuals facilitates discussion of other topics and denatures the original cause behind the "____" general.
The general, ultimately engineered to curb the vitality of discussion to a single thread has run too far. General topics grow to be consistently less about their espoused subject and more about interests loosely related to the subgroups population, which are occasionally a function of the main topic.
Gentlemen, I say to you that now is the time to break from the mold and ignore the "___" general thread. |
