Anyways: Equestria is an unexplored part of the Nevernever on the other side of Summer. Everfree is actually the edge of Summer's land. Because it is not an aggressive nation or species, it's knowledge is generally limited from most. Equestria is protected by a barrier powered from Celestia and (now) Luna. Everything their sun or moon's light touches is afflicted, unless Celestia or Luna want it to be there, thus dangerous creatures are driven out. But this also limits the Princesses' ability to act due to their energy being poured out from the sun and moon. This is why they use the Mane 6 and the Elements of Harmony as their champions.
Now, Equestria, rather than being linked to physical locations that are similar on Earth, are actually linked to the fantasies of young girls. The exact shape of Equestria changes slightly from generation to generation as the fantasies change (G1, 2, etc), currently resulting in the FiM universe as Faust's imagination has been allowed to spread.
Several facets of Equestia are directly linked and powered/influenced by the young girl's power of fantasy. Celestia is the culmination of everything good about Mother, thus wise, caring, the authority, and incredibly powerful. Luna's strength comes from the idea of the Big Sister, older and resembling somewhat like Mom while not having as much authority. Also, Nightmare Moon being a young girl's perception of teenage rebellion.
The Mane 6 are either a young girl's friend or the young girl themselves depending on who they relate to, and the Elements of Harmony is the power of friendship, literally.
While this place has traditionally been connected only to young girls, a strange fluke has resulted in a psychic connection to young adult men as well. |
