So I just rewatched the episode in glorious 1080p and I have to say it's still fucking awesome.

So much good stuff, my favourite parts were Pinkie jumping into Twilight's teleport spell, Spike bumping into Cheerilee, the hat, dat Vet's voice, "Twilight, git mah rope", Pinkie fending off Spike with cake, Rarity's attitude when dealing with mature Spike, Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy teamwork aaaaaaand the motherfucking capes at the end.

The only thing I didn't like was the wonderbolts showing up. It felt kinda shoehorned into the episode and there was enough stuff going on even without them. Plus they made a complete arse out of themselves. I don't know, I kinda feel they deserved better

I don't think Spike longed for his massive size, I think he was more just shocked at how he lost control over himself so badly.
Somewhere in my head canon, I also think Spike was realizing that he has a good life now but it may not last forever. Eventually he may be forced to leave Ponyville purely because he's gotten too big/is too much of a danger to be around.

One of the things I really like about Nicole Oliver (VA for Celestia and Cheerilee) is that I feel like she really cares about her role. In fact, that's pretty evident with most of the regulars, but I think that's probably easier to do with you have characters that are constantly on screen (like Tara Strong, Ashleigh Ball, and Andrea Libman).

Besides having a good, distinct characterization for both of her character voices, her EFR interview made me like her a lot more (though I was a fan already). She seemed really excited about the upcoming "Cheerilee episode", and she mentioned that she had approached Daniel Ingram and asked if they could find a singing part for her in the future, which I don't think she'd do if she didn't care about her roles.

I dunno. Maybe I'm gushing because I like her characters a lot.
