I actually kinda liked how they are experimenting with animation and model styles this season. For instance, Lesson Zero really broke the mold, instead of having ALL expressions on a plain, circular face with no variation, we got to see jaw movement and teeth clenching from Twilight, and it really made the characters feel less... stiff and more fluid.

Same with Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash's duet. Having the mouths more rounded out with cheeks spreading as the grin widens REALLY makes the smiles and expressions look more authentic.
